SOCIAL DANCING

PUBLIC LIBRARY SERVICES
The Mobile Library will be in Grantstown Daycare Centre on Wednesday, February 6, from 3.10 p.m. to 3.40 p.m. If you would like to join, membership is free. You can pick up an application form here in Grantstown Daycare Centre.

21 DAY WALKING CHALLENGE
For health benefits adults need to be active at a moderate level for at least 30 minutes a day on five days of the week. With that in mind, we would like to invite you to join our residents for a walk in the Bannow-Ballymitty GAA ground at 9 a.m. every morning. You can walk at your own pace, or you can walk on your own and record how long you walk each day for three weeks.
Challenge yourself to increase your walking time each week. Let’s see how many miles we can walk collectively in 21 days. We have record cards which also contain some useful advice on how to get started. You can get one by calling to reception at Grantstown Daycare Centre.

Kilmore Quay Community Development Association clg (KQCDA) is recruiting for the post of Kitchen Chef (Maternity Cover) 19.5 hour Post
KQCDA operates a Community Centre that provides a wide range of community support services for residents and visitors to Kilmore Quay and environs including a coffee shop based in the Stella Maris Centre Kilmore Quay. The post of Kitchen Chef is a part time post, 19.5 hours per week. This is a maternity leave cover position.
The post requires flexibility, some staff management and will include weekend work on a rostered basis. To apply please forward a cover letter and CV outlining your experience in both kitchen work and staff management and your suitability for this maternity leave position.

KILMORE AC
MASTER AND JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY – Kilmore AC’s dominant Masters women’s team continued their success with a win at the County Masters, junior and Juvenile relays Cross Country Championships on Sunday at Lingstown. The event was hosted by ourselves in the beautiful Lingstown in Tomhaggard. With the juvenile relays completed it was time for some of our adult members to get racing. Prerace chat was dominated by the wind, the freezing cold weather, the excellent course and Paddy’s general dislike of social media.
As mentioned the course was a credit to both Paddy Morgan and John Moore. Firm underfoot conditions meant running conditions were almost perfect apart from a strong breeze down one of the straights. The women, racing the 4k distance got under way at 1 p.m. From the off, Fiona Kehoe took control of the race and her status as race winner never looked in threat. It at times looked effortless for Fiona as she cruised to victory in a time of 15: 25. The second place finisher was also never in doubt. Jackie Carthy was nearly a minute clear of her nearest pursuer and finished in a time of 16: 04. Jackie was also comfortable throughout. Helen Doyle came home in sixth, in a time of 18: 14, with a strong sprint finish all the way to the line. Suzanne Foley and Sinéad Fortune were neck and neck for most of the race and battled all the way to the line with a fierce sprint finish. Suzanne held off Sinéad by the smallest of margins, one second. They finished 20th and 21st in a times of 20: 57 and 20: 58 respectively.
These results meant that Kilmore were clear winners of the ladies’ team title, with our first three finishers scoring only nine points, 14 clear of SBR After losing our County Senior title for the first time in several years in October it was nice to be back on top of the tree.
The men’s race saw five Kilmore participants involved, Nicky Foley, Michael O’Flaherty and Adrian Reville in the Masters Men’s race and Cian Doyle and Rory Cassidy in the junior race. Michael, who continues to come on leaps and bounds finished in 20th position. Having been 10th in his category at the Leinster Masters Championships in Gowran the week before it was no surprise to see him perform so well again. He finished seventh in his category, in a time of 23: 47. Behind him a battle ensued between Rory Cassidy, Nicky Foley and Cian Doyle. Rory did much of the running for the majority of the race with Cian and Nicky tucked nicely in behind him ready to pounce, and pounce they did. With less than a kilometre to go and Rory tiring, Nicky took over. With only 500m to go Rory was to be passed again. Up the last hill, Cian overtook him and never looked back. Nicky finished in a time of 25: 48 (32nd overall), Cian was the third junior (25: 50) and Rory the fourth (26: 07). Adrian Reville, returning from injury was 38th in a time of 29: 34.
SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY – Kilmore AC juveniles won multiple medals at the Mr Oil County Secondary Schools Cross Country on Wednesday. The races held in Good Counsel New Ross are always exciting with a mix of experience and beginners, who give cross country a go.
In the first race of the day, the Minor Girls 1000m, Arwyn Thompson (Presentation) and Kate O’Flaherty (Loretto), were to the front. In what was well short of the girls usual cross country distances, it was pretty much a prolonged sprint. In the end Arwyn came second and Kate fourth. In the Inter Girls 2000m, the pace was hot from the start. However, at about the half way stage the beginners had slowly fallen apart with the more experienced runners coming through the field. One such competitor was Eimear Fortune (Loretto), who produced a strong finish to cross the line in fifth place.
In the Senior Boys 3000m, a group of seven experienced athletes who compete regularly including Rory Cassidy (Bridgetown College), made their way to the front. As the laps progressed and the top three moved away a battle ensued for the minor medals. Rory was lying in fifth till the last straight but still hung onto the medal, Bridgetown only success of the day.
Other club members who competed were Cian Doyle, Liam O’Flaherty and Senan Murray (all Bridgetown), and Ross O’Flaherty (St Peter’s College). They all raced a very competitive Inter Boys 2000m and competed well. Thanks to the teachers, volunteers and Good Counsel College, who once again helped the day to be a success. The students now turn their focus to the South Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships taking place in Carlow Town GAA Club, on Thursday the 31st.
NATIONAL LEAGUE – Well done to Fiona Kehoe, who finished second in Guest 800m in Round two of the AAI National League in Athlone IT International Arena on Saturday. Fiona continued her Indoor Season, running her first 800m of the season and finished only one tenth of a second behind City of Lisburn AC athlete Kelly Neely.
ART CLASS
Are you interested in learning/ improving your Watercolor painting skills? Classes on in Tomhaggard Social Centre on Tuesdays 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., run in six-week modules. The tutor is well known local artist Maria Murphy and the class has been ongoing for the past three years. For details contact Maria at 086 3848364.

Are you winter Ready? Thanks to a donation of timber from Karen and Mick Doyle Kilmore Scouts are selling kindling at Tomhaggard Social Centre €2 per bag. Available Monday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. or when centre is open. Proceeds in aid of Scout funds.
PILATES
There’s a six-week pilates course starting in Tomhaggard Social Centre on Wednesday, February 6, at 10 a.m. Cost €20 for the course due to Grant aid. There are a few places available. To book a place or get details contact Mary at 085 7768638.
BOWLING ACTIVITY
The Kilmore ARA Seals team had a very close and exciting game with Slaneyside in the count league on Wednesday in the Stella Maris Centre but came out on the wrong side of a 12-10 score line at the end. Team was Noel and Margaret Howlin, Anne Lawless and Joe Barry. On Wednesday the sixth the Seals will be at home to Ferns in the SMC at 2 p.m. again in the county league. Practice will be on Tuesday the fifth at 2 p.m. also in the SMC.
KILMORE ARA
Kilmore Active Retirement Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, February 7, at 7.30 p.m. in the GAA clubrooms. The program for the coming months will be presented for discussion at the meeting while the membership fee of €2000 per person will also be due if not already paid. We would welcome new members or indeed anybody interested in attending to have a look at what activities we carry out in the association.
