Winning primary pupils have all the answers
Teams from Blackwater national school and CBS Wexford have won stage one of the Irish League of Credit Unions table quiz, qualifying them for the Chapter 9 final when they will be up against winning teams from around County Wexford and South Wicklow.
Ten schools fielded 40 teams totalling 160 quizzers for the annual table quiz hosted by Wexford Credit Union in the Riverbank House Hotel last week with quiz master Pat McGannon testing the general knowledge of participants with questions set by the credit union organisation.
The winner of Competition A for competitors Under 11 years was a team from Blackwater school comprising Joshua Moran Murphy, Jack Walsh, Oliver Power and Owen Lacey.
The runner-up in this category was Glynn national school with a team comprising Naoise Kelly, Chloe Casey, Sarah Healy and Izzy Wilde.
Competiton B for students Under 13 years, was won by Conal Dwyer, Jack Clare, Dylan McBride and James Browne of the CBS primary school in Wexford while the runner-up was Barntown national school with a team comprising Shauna Hume, Ciara Enright, Sarah Nolan and Darragh Moran.
The winning teams were presented with trophies and certificates and also received prizes of sports bags. The co-ordinator for the Wexford event was Tonya Fortune of Wexford Credit Union.
Pat McGannon said he was very impressed by the high standard of general knowledge shown by the young Wexford competitors who certainly knew their stuff.
He thanked all the students who took part and the parents and schools for their support.
The Chapter 9 table quiz will be held on a date and at a venue to be confirmed. The winners will go forward to the national final of the Irish League of Credit Unions competition to be held in the RDS in Dublin in April.
