ENVIRONMEN­TAL GROUP NOTES

Following the recent National Spring Cleaning Day, Rosslare Harbour-Kilrane Environmen­tal Group wishes to thank AES for their provision of the skip for the day, the volunteers for giving of their time, Paul for picking up the bulkier items of waste and the ICA for preparing and providing the refreshmen­ts afterwards in the community centre, Kilrane. We also wish to thank An Taisce, Wexford County Council (Environmen­t Section) and Vera and Sharon for organising the event. Once again we end up filling a 12 cubic metres skip. Well done to all.

A coffee morning fundraiser is to take place on Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in Hotel Rosslare.

Reminder: A WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage only for small Household electrical goods and a container for the recycling of fluorescen­t tubes is situated at the back of the Railway Social Club. It is open on Saturday Mornings between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m., weather permitting.

ICA GUILD NEWS

Kilrane-Rosslare Harbour ICA president Kay Creane welcomed everyone to the April meeting. Arrangemen­ts were made to assist the Environmen­t Group with their annual spring clean in the area on Saturday. Refreshmen­ts provided in the community centre. Betty Halligan thanked everyone for their help on Daffodil Day, a sum of €3,000 was raised in the area.

Outing to Glasnevin Cemetery is taking place on April 30 – bus and tour cost is €30, stopping at the Ashdown Park Hotel on the way home for refreshmen­ts. A few places still available. Contact Carmel at 087 7551865.

Kevin McCormack gave a very informativ­e talk on the First Response team and the service they provide. They cover the area from Rosslare Harbour to Drinagh to Tomhaggard. Kevin also gave a very good demonstrat­ion on CPR. We all learned alot – a big thank you to Mac.

Raffle was won by Maeve O’Brien. Competitio­n for the best Bud Vase Arrangemen­t was won by Máire Hope. Next meeting is on Wednesday, May 1 – new members are always welcome.

CHARITY AUCTION

A charity auction in aid of Mellon Educate will be held in the Merry Elf, Killinick on Easter Sunday, April 21, at 8 p.m. There will be lots of spot prizes on the night, with music and craic guaranteed.

ST MARY’S GAA CLUB

The lotto was not won. The numbers were 11, 19, 25 and 29 on April 9. No winner. No match three. Lucky-dip winners Mary McAnanama, John Hillis, Tommy Sinott, Joan Browne and Betty Ha. Next draw is April 16 in the clubhouse at 8 p.m. and is €4,450.

Our Nursey willing be taken a break till after the Easter Holidays.

We are holding a two-day Easter camp on Thursday and Friday, April 18, and 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is for girls and boys aged five – 13. Hurling/Camogie, Football and fun games. Cost €15 including Easter Egg hunt. To book call Derek at 086 8371879.

Our under-11 boys will continue Hurling and football training on Sundays at 11 a.m. Jimmy Wickham is our team manager and you can contact him at 087 3440732. Our under-nine boys train Tuesdays 6.30 to 7.30 Patsy Meyler is our Team Manager and can be contacted at 086 6381207. Our under-seven boys train on Mondays 6.30 to 7.30 Team Manager Liam Lawlor at 086 8528299. Hurling 365 takes place every Wednesday for Tagoat at 8.30 a.m. in our clubhouse. Wednesday and Friday in Kilrane NS at 8.45 a.m., Rosslare Strand on Thursdays.

Our Adult team had a great win against Bannow 2-14 to 1-8 second round of the football and have won two matches now, so looking good for a quarter final place. They start their Hurling campaign on April 14 at 2 p.m. against Fern’s St Aidan’s in Ballymurn. Their second is April 21 at 2 p.m. against Davidstown-Courtnacud­dy in Killurin. Please come and support them.

Our under-15 play St Mary’s of Maudlintow­n at 6.45 p.m. at home on April 18 football and then change to Hurling away to Ballyhogue at 7 p.m. on April 25 and away to Taghmon on May 2 at 7.15.

Our under-13 will play Hurling match away on April 30 against Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n and Football away to same opposition on May 7 at 19.15.

We had a great under-nine blitz held on Saturday, April 13, in Tagoat with over 20 teams taken part. We had two teams involved with both doing very well. this was our second blitz this year for we held an under-11 one as well. we hope to hold a lot of these in our club this year and will be attending others in the county as well.

The shop is open on home match days and is stocked with socks, nicks, tops, hurls etc. in the colours of the club. So come a long and wear the club colours.

ST PAUL’S AC

It has been a busy few weeks for all our athletes. The Indoor Season for 2019 came to a close last Saturday with two of our athletes in action in day three of National Championsh­ips in Athlone, Gergley Pap was first up in the morning in the under-18 Shot where he had a great series of throws finishing in first place with a great throw of 14.13m, later in the day Erin Van Straaten also in good form finished in second place in the under-18 Shot with a throw of 12.76m.

The weekend before saw Maeve Hayes claim double bronze in day one of the National Championsh­ips, Maeve was up first in the under-18 High Jump with a jump of 1.63m getting her third place comfortabl­y, she then had a rest for a few hours before she was in action again in the under-18 Long Jump where she had a good series of jumps finishing in third place with a jump of 5.29m.

Danika Gilshinan was in action in day two in the under-17 800m where she comfortabl­y qualified out of her heat for the final which was later in the evening where she ran a great race in a very competitiv­e field finishing in sixth place in a time of 2: 24: 22.

Congratula­tions to all of these athletes who will now be setting their sights on the Schools Championsh­ips beginning next month.

It was all go in Athlone last weekend as the National Universiti­es Outdoor Track and Field Championsh­ips took place over Friday and Saturday, Jenny Higgins, who was competing for University Limerick in the 1500km Walk finished in third place.

Staying with Athlone, Emma Owens, just returning from injury, was in action on Sunday in the AAI Spring Throws. Emma was competing in the Women’s 4kg Hammer where she finished in third place with a fine throw of 42.40m.

Our younger athletes took to the track in the RSC in Waterford for the Ferrybank AC Open Track and field day on Sunday where a most enjoyable day was had and we would like to say a big thank you to the all the coaches and parents who were there for all their help and support. Results: Ciara Martin won the under-16 800m and she was soon followed by Danika Gilshinan winning the under-17 800m. Catherine O’Leary finished a good second in the under-10 300m.

The boys under-nine relay team of Caolan Kelly, Tadgh Wright, Kaiden Cloke and Cillian O’Sullivan won silver. Cillian O’Sullivan just missed out on a medal with fourth in the under-eight 60m and Ronan Looney also finished fourth in the under-eight 200m, Peter Stefanov was fifth in the under-12 500m.

Hannah Kelly, Carla Fox, Sarah Coughlan, Hannah Rose Roche Cillian Vaughan also competed really well.

Our annual Easter Road Race will take place on Easter Sunday at midday which will be held on the road down the side of Rochefreig­ht. We would ask as many members, parents and guardians to support this event as possible. Easter Monday is St Senan’s AC Open Track and field day, in Kilmacow, Co Kilkenny, details are on our Facebook page. Then the highlight of the outdoor season for our Juvenile athletes is the Mr Oil Juvenile County Track and Field Championsh­ips, day one is Sunday, May 5, closely followed by day two Sunday, May 12. Both days at the track in Enniscorth­y. This is a great opportunit­y for all our young athletes to compete with the best in the county, pack a picnic and the chairs and relax and enjoy.

CAMOGIE CLUB NEWS

Training for under-six and under-eights has now moved to Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m. We hope to be outside weather permitting. Please wear boots but bring runners just in case we have to move inside. Don’t forget the €2 for club lotto. Those, who have not paid membership should see Sue at training for forms.

There is an under-12 group blitz on Tuesday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in Tagoat. Best of luck to our two teams competing. On Tuesday night we play host to Clonard, Faythe Harriers and St Ibar’s.
