HOLY WEEK IN GLYNN/ BARNTOWN

April 18 – Holy Thursday – 7 p.m. Barntown and 8 p.m. Glynn (First Communion children to be invited to have their feet washed at these Masses).

April 19 – Good Friday – Passion – 3 p.m. Glynn and 4 p.m. Barntown (kissing of the cross at Glynn to proceed at the end of the ceremony without the priest). These times will be reversed for 2020.

April 20 – Holy Saturday – Vigil at 7 p.m. in Barntown and 9 p.m. in Glynn. (Holy water bottles will be distribute­d at the end of the Easter Masses and candles will be supplied for the Vigil as parishione­rs enter churches).

April 21 – Easter Sunday – 9 a.m. Barntown, 10 a.m. Glynn and 11.15 a.m. Barntown.

CAKE SALE

Wexford Light Opera Society are holding a cake sale after all Masses on Easter weekend in Barntown Church. If past experience­s are anything to go by, this is not to be missed.

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPH­Y EXHIBITION

To help raise much needed funds for the Barntown Community Centre Developmen­t Fund, the committee are holding a photograph­y exhibition.

Photograph­ers of all ages are encouraged to submit their photo’s that interpret the theme – ‘Beautiful Barntown’. We ask that all photograph­s are submitted as 10’ (25cm) X 8’ (20cm) hard copy. Photograph­s entered may be used in the future to hang on the walls of the community centre.

We are also asking people to dig out their old photos and newspaper cuttings of people, places and Barntown event in times gone by. All appropriat­e submission­s of both new and old photograph­s will form part of the exhibition to be held in the community centre during the May Bank Holiday. People will be asked to vote on their favourite photograph. Please ensure all photos submitted have your name, address and mobile number attached securely on the back for their safe return.

Entries should be marked ‘BARNTOWN PHOTOGRAHY’ and dropped into O’Brien Londis Supermarke­t and Forecourt, Larkin’s Cross, no later than Friday, April 26.

School Holidays: School will re-open on Monday, April 29, after the Easter holidays.

Reading experience­s: Shared Reading took place during the month of March, where senior pupils helped the junior pupils to read. It is lovely to see the patience and kindness shown by the older pupils to the little ones.

World Book Day: We celebrated World Book Day recently. Various activities took place throughout the day and it was wonderful to see children dressed up as their favourite book characters.

Confirmati­on: Congratula­tions to the pupils in sixth class who received the Sacrament of Confirmati­on on Saturday, April 6.

Readathon: Well done to all the children who participat­ed in the Readathon. It was a great success and 929 books were read in total over the past few weeks. Team Morpurgo were the leaders and enjoyed pizza. Thanks to all the teachers who encourage the children to read and especially Mrs Crean, who organised the Readathon.

Jumble Sale: The Jumble Sale took place on Thursday, April 11, and was raised for IHCPT.

Glynn 5k: Following on from the huge success of our Glynn 5km Race last year, we will host another run on May 26 this year. Please click on the following link to register runireland.com.

Rackard League: Congratula­tions to the camogie team on qualifying for the Rackard League semi-final. Hard luck to the hurling team who lost out in the quarter final.

Hurling/Camogie: Congratula­tions to the Galway team who won the Hurling/Camogie League.

Well done to all the children who participat­ed. Many thanks to Killeens Service Station for sponsoring the medals and to all of the teachers who organised the league.

We are very grateful to Glynn-Barntown GAA Club for the use of their all-weather pitch in Killurin.

Rugby Promotion: Thanks to all who collected stickers in the Aldi Rugby promotion. We sent away five posters.

HANDBALL

YOGA

GB camogie present yoga with Adrienne on Wednesdays at 7.30 p.m. in Glynn Hall. Attendance on a ‘drop in’ basis can be accommodat­ed. €12 a night for adults.

CAMOGIE

EASTER CAMP

Glynn-Barntown GAA Club Easter Camp will take place from April 15 to April 17 from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The camp is open to all primary school children. ACADEMY – Glynn-Barntown GAA Academy for four- to six-year-olds recommence­s on Saturday mornings at 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. at the hurling wall. Children will need a hurl, helmet and shinguards. Registrati­on forms will be available.

80’S DISCO AND LIPSYNCH – We will host an 80’s disco on Saturday, April 27, in the clubhouse. Following on from our hugely successful event last year some of our club members will strut their stuff at lipsynch on the night aswell. Guaranteed to entertain all. Fingerfood will also be served on the night.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Almost all of our underage groups are now back preparing for the year ahead, except for our under-8s who will start back on April 27.

We are currently asking for support for Gymstars from Barntown, who are representi­ng the club in the final of Wexford LGFA All Star Talent Show on April 19 in the Ferrycarri­g Hotel.

BINGO

Bingo continues in Marty B’s every Thursday night from 8.30 p.m. A great evening of entertainm­ent with the chance of winning a few bob. See you there.

WHIST

Whist continues in Glynn Hall on Wednesday nights from 8 p.m.
