GAA CLUB NEWS

Our Junior Football team travelled to Gusserane on Saturday. What an entertaini­ng game we had. We wish the manager David Staunton a speedy recovery after his injury in the goal. Well done to all that turned up and we got a win out of it. Final score b/b nine points to five points.

Lotto draw this Tuesday evening with a jackpot of €11,900 to be won. Tickets are two euro each and available to purchase from Doyle’s Carrig, Seabreeze drycleaner­s, Tír na nÓg, Staffords Tullycanna, Costcutter­s and from any Club Officer down in the complex.

Talking about tickets the Model County ones are making their rounds around the parish. €50 for a three draw prize. Thanks to Tommy, who s selling them for the club.

The annual camogie table quiz will take place in Tír na nÓg on Friday, April 26. A table of four €20 and a junior table €15. Table sponsorshi­p is €50. Further informatio­n contact Gary Sinnott chairman.

Upcoming fixtures for the week ahead under-13 hurling V Ballygarre­th home game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. On Thursday under-15 boys’ football v New Ross at 6.45 also at home.

Sunday brings the second round of the Hurling Championsh­ip for the junior squad. This match is in Bree at 2 p.m. and they play Monageer.

Also on Sunday the junior camogie ladies travel to St James for their match at 3.30.

Our under-sevens had a great day last weekend with a blitz over in Grantstown. Thee were teams from all over enjoying their day out. Well done to all involved for organising this important blitz for the little ones in our parish.

Our intermedia­te Football team lost out to St Mary’s Rosslare on Saturday last in Taghmon.

TEACH NA NÓG

BANNOW 1169 NORMAN FESTIVAL

On May 4 and 5 Bannow 1169 will commemorat­e the 850th anniversar­y of the first Norman landing in Ireland with a festival in Carrig-on-Bannow and a civic ceremony at Bannow Church. Battle reenactmen­ts, a living history tented village, historical lectures, a commemorat­ive ceremony and concerts featuring local and Norman musicians will mark what is the most important and consequent­ial event in Irish history.

The weekend will begin with the tented village being installed in a field in Carrig-on-Bannow where the battle reenactmen­ts will take place over two days. There will be 14 living history tents, 15 living history craft displays, a display of Norman cavalry warfare and fully trained warriors for the displays twice each day.

There will be warrior training for children each day after the battles plus free have a go at archery for the children along with free Norman replica coins.

A civic ceremony will take place at Bannow Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, to which leading dignitarie­s will be invited.

On both May 4 and 5 there will be historical lectures in the marquee in the village. On Saturday we have Turtle Bunbury and on Sunday Emmet Stafford will be the guest speaker.

On both Saturday and Sunday there will be concerts in the marquee at Colfer’s pub. On Saturday the inaugural performanc­e of a specially commission­ed piece by Greg French will be performed by the Danescastl­e school senior band along with other local guests. Our friends from Normandy, Strand Hugg will complete the concert.

Sundays concert will again feature Strand Hugg along with the local band Green Road.

SOCIAL DANCING

dancing continues every Thursday night in Tír na nÓg with music this Thursday, April 18, by Mary Pendergast and April 25 music by Adrian Ryan. All welcome refreshmen­ts served.

PARKINSON’S ASSOCIATIO­N

A massive thank you to the large crowd who attended the coffee morning in Grantstown on Monday morning and thank you for your generous donations.

Thanks also to the staff and volunteers for their tireless work keeping everyone supplied with tea and cakes and to everyone who baked the delicious confection­ery and donated prizes as well as those who organised the event.

We raised over €1,000 for the Wexford branch of the Parkinson’s Associatio­n.

BALLYMITTY HALL EVENTS

Easter Egg Hunt – The annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place after Mass on Easter Sunday, April 21, starting at Ballymitty Hall at 11 a.m. Easter treats for everyone so HOP on over.

Monster Drive-In Bingo – Monster Bingo is on Easter Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m. in Ballymitty Hall. Special Bingo with €2,000 in prizes. Raffle and lots of prizes. Tea and cakes served.

Big Breakfast Morning – The next Sunday Cafe will take place on Sunday, May 5, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in Ballymitty Hall. We will be serving a tasty Full Irish Breakfast on the morning. Cake sale.

There will be a cake sale in aid of Danescastl­e music group will be held in the community centre on Good Friday, April 19, after prayers. Please support by buying or bringing a cake or two.

‘SONGS FOR HOPE’

Drop into Stafford’s pub in Tullycanna on Sunday, May 5, any time after 4 p.m. for some great live music, from folk to rock, jazz to country. All in aid of the Hope Cancer Support Centre.

We had a great turnout last year and raise over €2,000 with your help. Your support again this year will be greatly appreciate­d. Free admission. There will be a raffle on the day.
