EASTER WALK/EGG HUNT
Due to a Rd.2 hurling championship fixture, the St Fintan’s Easter fundaising walk will now take place on Bank Holiday Easter Monday at clubgrounds in Ballymore at 11 a.m. Adults €5, children free. Immediately following the walk, there will be an Easter egg hunt with lots of chocolate goodies to be had for the children.
ST FINTAN’S
Having scored an impressive victory over Duffry Rovers in its first outing in the Amber Springs – Ashdown Park Hotels football championship group B the St Fintan’s intermediate football team travelled to St Patrick’s park Enniscorthy with high hopes of taking the spoils when taking on Halfway House Bunclody. Any thoughts of a follow up victory were soon put to bed when the Bunclody men scored two goals in the first four minutes but the Ballymore-Mayglass men were still in the contest at the break on a scoreline of 2-04 to 1-02 but that was as close as they got with Bunclody out scoring them 0-10 to 0-02 in the second half.
St Fintan’s men’s hurling team will contest their Road two hurling championship on Easter Sunday in Ballymore at 11.30 a.m. V Naomh Eanna. All support welcome.
COISTE NA NÓG
The St Fintan’s underage teams playing as Crossfin Gales played a number of games during the recent past. The under-17 football team playing in the Wexford People football Premier championship suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Naomh Eanna 3-06 to 1-10. The under-17 hurling team playing in the Wexford People Roinn one South championship was to finish narrow winners on a scoreline of 2-21 to 3-17 over St James. The under-13 football team playing as Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s also scored a narrow victory and this time over Fethard 2-04 to 1-05 in the New Ross standard div.5 13-a-side championship. Well done, all.
GAA WELLNESS WEEK
Wexford GAA will organise a Wellness Week from May 6 – 12th 2019 with a view to promoting the importance of physical, social and mental well being. A full schedule of events will be communicated before the end of April with the week ending in a Family Fun day on Sunday, May 12, in conjunction with the Wexford v Louth Leinster Senior Football Championship game.
As part of this Wellness week, St Fintan’s plan to hold a wellbeing evening on Tuesday, May 7, in the clubgrounds with exact details to be communicated in the coming weeks.
DEFIBRILLATOR
A defibrillator has been installed on the wall outside the front door of Tomhaggard Social Centre. Anyone interested in receiving training on the proper use of the equipment should contact Breda at 086 858480, or any committee member. One course scheduled for Saturday, May 12, with Ger Carthy is full but we hope to run a second course facilitated by another trainer within the next few months.
WAY OF THE CROSS
Parishioners are invited to join together in carrying the Parish Cross on Good Friday. This will be the third year of this new parish tradition. The cross will be jointly carried from Ballycogley Grotto starting at 2 p.m. on Good Friday and arriving at Ballymore Church for the celebration of the Passion Ceremony at 3 p.m. Lifts will be arranged to bring people back to Ballycogley afterwards. Please join us in this community celebration of Faith.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross will be held at 7.30 p.m. on Good Friday in Ballymore Church. A selection of Passion Hymns will be provided by Neil Foley between stations. This is an excellent way to finish our solemn Lenten preparation before the celebration of Easter.
MODEL COUNTY TICKETS
CLG Loch Garman Club and county draw 2019 tickets, better known as Model County tickets, are now available to buy through St Fintan’s GAA Club. Draw dates are May 1, May 29 and June 26.
Each month’s draw will have a top prize of a new car to the value of €16,000 with another 49 prizes each month ranging from Pettitt’s SuperValu voucher of €1,500 and €750, Top Oil Voucher, Glen Fuel voucher, hotel vouchers, Monart Spa voucher and various cash prizes. Tickets are €50 for the three draws which can be paid in one payment or three monthly payments of €20, €20 and €10.
Ticket sellers will be out and about in the coming weeks and your support as ever is very much appreciated. These tickets provide a vital annual income for your local GAA Club and this year more than ever with so much significant club developments under way.

VILLAGE CLEAN UP
The Killinick Project big village clean-up is under way and going well. Thank you to all the volunteers who have been helping out. We need more volunteers to help us with our goals to uplift Killinick Village. Please feel free to come along every Saturday at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. meeting at the Merry Elf car park. This is weather permitting. The clean-up involves cleaning up, cutting back areas, re-painting, putting in new trees, planting and a general tidy up where needed in the village of Killinick.
We will provide all the utensils for the work. Any child that comes along under the age of 12 years will have to be accompanied by a parent of designated guardian. Everyone that comes will be entered into a free draw for a big Easter Egg.
We would like to thank our local councillor Frank Staples for assisting us with this cleanup and Wexford County Council environmental department for giving us the utensils and tools to keep our village and your local community tidy and clean.
ALL BLACKS AFC
Massive well done to girls from our under-10, 12, 14 squads who won the county finals today representing Mayglass NS winning all three games they now look forward to the south Leinster Final on April 30 split-the-pot draw result April 8 prize draw in Bridies Pub, Bridgetown as follows. Winner prize €226 goes to Shauna Somers.
Next week’s draw is on in the Halfway House Pub, on April 15. Your support is greatly appreciated. All proceeds go towards the All Blacks AFC 2020 development fund, playground development and walking track in Casey Park. Well done to our under-14 girl’s who started there 2019 league campaign with a 1-1 draw away against last year’s champions Curracloe utd. In fantastic game we took the lead through Abigail Clarke with a penalty we conseeded with 15 minutes left on the clock and that’s the way it stayed. We had four girl’s who made there debuts for us today and they all gave a great account of themselves some of who were playing at the top club level for the first time today. We had many top class performances today all over the pitch but our star today was Ashling Roche, who from start to finish gave a outstanding display of skill and work rate. Well done, girls.

BALLYCOGLEY PLAYERS

Synopsis of the play: From age nine into her forties, Brenda is seen through the eyes of her eccentric and sometimes fiery family, particularly her willfully self descriptive father and her put upon and sometimes hot tempered mum. Hilarious scrapes erupt when Brenda’s imagination and intelligence bump against the restrictions of Irish and English customs and society.
The play is a captivating and non-uncritical look at family life that features some wonderful roles. This year’s cast (which involves both our old stalwarts and new members) look forward to your support with this production.
RUGBY
Congratulations to Jack Codd, Churchlands, Mayglass, who was a member of the Wexford Wanderers underage team that competed in a rugby blitz in Mullingar during the recent past. Following the series of games during which Jack was a try scorer which helped the wanderers in no small way claim the trophy. Jack and his fellow team members were presented with their Leinster medals following the blitz. Jack is an all round sportsman and a keen hurler with the St Fintan’s club. Keep up the good work Jack.
CHARITY AUCTION
A charity auction in aid of Mellon Educate will be held in the Merry Elf, Killinick on Easter Sunday, April 21, at 8 p.m. There will be lots of spot prizes on the night, with music and craic guaranteed.
