ART, drama, music, film and children’s fun are among the highlights of Wexford Arts Centre’s 2019 Festival programme.

On Saturday, October 19 at 6 p.m., the centre will host the premiere of a new documentary film Wagon Wheels by filmaker Terence White about traditional barrel top wagons in County Wexford.

The film is funded by a Creative Ireland award through Wexford County Council. Entry to the screening is free and all are welcome to attend.

The centre has its fair share of drama with Wexford Drama Group presenting Shush written by Elaine Murphy, a play set in Dublin in 2010 from October 23 to 27 at 8 p.m. each night. Directed by Carol Long, it centres on Breda, a reluctant birthday girl whose friends descend on her bearing alcohol, cake and gifts.

Bridge Drama Group will present Thy Will be Done, written by Michael Carey and directed by Brigid Scully, from Tuesday, October 29 to Saturday, November 2. It’s the story of two brothers who haven’t spoken to each other for 40 years despite living side by side.

Saxophone quartet Saxology featuring Louise Malone, Ann Wickham, Patrick Lawlor and Alan Mahon, will perform on Friday, November 1 at 1 p.m.

Musical madness is in store when Dutch band The Busquitos bring their zany antics to the Arts Centre stage on Thursday, October 24 at 1 p.m.

There are three shows for younger audiences with Teddy’s Picnic for three to six year olds; an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland for four to nine year olds, presented by Barking Dog Theatre, and a music and puppet show Spider Frighters, Freedom Frighters by Red Moon Creative Arts Theatre, suitable for ages three to eight year olds, on Saturday, October 26 at 12 p.m.

On the visual art front, the centre is hosting part of a two-venue exhibition From the Mountain containing selected works from the Arts Council collection and invited artists Orla Bates, Stephen Brandes, Fran Greene, Paul McGinley,

Olivia O’ Dwyer and Michael John Whelan , which is also showing at Wexford County Council in Carricklawn.

The opening at 7 p.m. will be followed at 8 p.m. by an experimental live art and music performance event called Your Self Made Super Human which reflects on how humans become super humans through scientific discoveries. It is curated by Katherine Atkinson and features artists Deirdre Buggy, Francis Fay, Maria Hughes, Chris O’ Brien, Martin McDann and Simon Quigley.
