7 Things to do this week...
1
WEXFORD SPIEGELTENT FESTIVAL: Things have really hit fever pitch at the Spiegeltent Paradiso on Wexford’s quays over the past week. Having hosted the likes of John Bishop and Jools Holland last week, festivities are in full flow. There’s plenty more to come too with this, the final week of acts. Among those taking to the Spiegeltent stage are Wexford native Pierce Turner who performs a homecoming show tonight. There’s also a stunning tribute to the Jersey Boys, the legendary Sinead O’Connor, King Kong Company, Jack Lukeman, All Tvvins, The 2 Johnnies, Wild Youth, Villagers, Freak Fantastique, Wexford Male Voice Choir and, last but not least, a much anticipated show from The
Academic to bring this year’s festival to a close. As has been the case all along, there’s been a huge demand for tickets, however, a limited number are still available for certain shows. For more details, visit www. wexfordspiegeltent.com, call into their box office on the Main Street or contact the festival promoters on 053 9199199.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING FINAL: The battle lines have been drawn and the action is ready to commence this Sunday as Innovate Wexford Park hosts the Pettitt’s SuperValu
Senior Hurling Championship
Final between St Martin’s and St Anne’s of Rathangan. St Anne’s are continuing to surprise people this year, most recently having managed to overcome the Rapparees by a twogoal margin in the semi-final. They’ll be hoping to pull off one more upset as they face a St Martin’s side that dug deep to survive a late rally from Ferns St Aidans in the corresponding fixture. It looks set to be a fascinating encounter and tickets will be available from the usual sources.
3
HOLLYWOOOD FEVER: Hollywood has been in Askamore for some time and all are set for Saturday night which will see the big event at the Amber Springs Hotel. The red carpet will be rolled out at 8 p.m. and the seven shows are ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Sister Act’, ‘Father Ted’, ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’, ‘The Field, ‘Waking Ned’ and ‘Derry Girls’. 4
GREASE: Grease is certainly the word at the Dun Mhuire Theatre as Oyster Lane Theatre Group (OLTG) stage their production of a real favourite nightly until Sunday. It’s set to be one of the final shows taking to the stage of the historic Dun Mhuire Theatre and it also marks the 25th anniversary of OLTG’s original production of ‘Grease’. With a stellar cast, it’s a show you won’t want to miss. Tickets are €12 from the OLTG website.

JACK AND JILL WALK ON CARRIGBYRNE HILL: A family fundraising walk for the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation takes place on Carrigbyrne Hill this Bank Holiday Monday at 11 a.m. Now an annual event, the leisurely walk or run with family and friends always makes for a great day out. You can register on the day for
€16 per adult, a sum which provides one hour’s home nursing care for a sick child. This year,
350 Wexford families have been helped by the charity. Refreshments will be provided on the day and children are welcome to come in fancy dress clothes.
7
SHUSH: Wexford Drama Group are delighted to present their staging of Elaine Murphy’s ‘Shush’ nightly at Wexford Arts Centre from Wednesday to Sunday. A real gem, the show tells the story of five friends who gather to celebrate the birthday of Breda. Breda is in her late 50s, facing redundancy and near the end of her marriage, so she is in no mood for celebrations! There is alcohol, cake and presents, so whether she likes it or not there is going to be a party. A funny story with real emotions, written by Elaine Murphy who brought us ‘Little Gem’. The show is said to be unsuitable for under 16s and some tickets are still available from www.wexfordartscentre.ie or by calling 053 9123764.
