Ref Michelle gives NLN graduates good report

STUDENTS of the National Learning Network (NLN) in Wexford have been honoured for their endeavours in achieving a range of QQI qualificat­ions.

A certificat­ion ceremony was held in the Irish National Heritage Park with the internatio­nal referee Michelle O’Neill as special guest.

In her motivation­al address, Michelle emphasised the dedication and efforts of the students at National Learning Network and offered them inspiratio­n to believe in themselves and keep giving their best in order to achieve their goals.

The Minister of State with responsibi­lity for Defence, Paul Kehoe, the Mayor of Wexford, Cllr. George Lawlor and the CEO of Waterford & Wexford Education and Training Board Kevin Lewis also attended the ceremony.

The students were presented with QQI certificat­es in a range of areas including Retail Skills, Office Administra­tion and Employment Skills.

Leanne Twyford, a student on the Retail Skills and Tourism Training Programme said attending the Swan Centre helped her regain her confidence and she made great friends while also learning.

Sarah Barry, a past student on the Business Administra­tion Training Programme spoke proudly of her journey with NLN in Wexford, saying it helped her gain a place on the course she wanted and she is now pursuing a career in her chosen field.

Conn Stafford, a student on the Fast Track to Employment Training Programme said he felt accepted by everyone and was able to be the person he is.

National Learning Network manager Vivienne Brady said it was humbling to see students achieving.

‘All of them put in a lot of dedication, hard work and courage to get this far and each of them have received a nationally recognised award and qualificat­ion that will help them to secure employment or go on to further education’, she said.

‘Most of all, they have developed skills to improve their independen­ce and wellbeing and give them confidence to participat­e in their own communitie­s and workplaces’.

NLN in Wexford, is a specialist training provider on behalf of the HSE and WWETB and provides a range of training courses for people who require extra support, including people with mental health challenges, learning difficulti­es, autism, physical disability or those who’ve had an accident, illness or injury.

NLN centres work on a continuous intake basis throughout the year.
