- By MARIA PEPPER

THE 48TH ANNUAL EDITION OF THE Kilmore Parish Journal was launched at a well-attended event in the Stella Maris Centre.

The guest of honour was the retired principal of Bridgetown Vocational College, Tony Power who officially launched the latest publication.

Journal committee chairperson Seamus O’ Keeffe welcomed everyone and thanked all those who contributed to the 196page book.

‘The people who support us every year are the life blood of the journal and yet there are always new writers contributing every year which helps to give variety to readers of all ages’, he said.

Seamus said one of this year’s articles is about the human skeletal remains found on Forlorn Point in 2017 and the journal is the first to publish the experts’ report and examination of the age bracket of the two remains which makes for very interesting reading.

He talked about the front cover photo which is a bird’s eye view of Bridgetown Vocational College, taken from the air by Kevin Whelan, and the many pages of material about the college in the early pages of the journal.

He mentioned the grandparents’ projects presented by sixth class pupils of Scoil Réalt na Mara in Kilmore which are now an annual feature of the publication.

He thanked the editor Seamus O’ Brien and the committee members for their efforts in producing this year’s book, along with the typesetter and designer Hilary Mullen and C&R Print.

Tony Power whose son Adrian was recently appointed principal of the Vocational College, remarked on the great array of interesting articles and photographs in the journal, including those about the College where he worked for 37 years, of which 24 were spent as principal up to the time of his retirment in 2009.
