Please note story time will move to a new time of Saturday mornings at 10.30 a.m. from January 11, 2020. Saturday, December 21, at 11 a.m. Christmas Story Time with Niamh Join Niamh for some special Christmas stories. Suitable for children ages 0-8.

Wexford Library will close for the Christmas break on Saturday, December 21, at 5.30 p.m. and reopen on Saturday, December 28, at 10.30 a.m. Its staff wish all of their patrons a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

Bingo

Bingo takes place every Tuesday night in the TAG Centre, Taghmon from 8 p.m.

Next week’s jackpot will be €650. Last week’s winner of the 50/50 was Margaret Kelly.

Kathleen Cardiff won a single book, while Mary Ann Morrissey won a double.

Pierce Turner

On Monday, December 23 at 8.30 p.m. Pierce Turner returns to Wexford Arts Centre.

The Arts Centre is committed to making this a joyous night of seasonal delight, so cabaret style seating will be employed, even though that means less available seating. This show is guaranteed to be a sell-out, as it always has been. Booking in advance is advised to avoid disappoint­ment.

Expect all the hits plus the critically acclaimed new album ‘Vinegar Hill’. Tickets €23.

Bob Dylan

JMA will pay homage to some of Bob Dylan and Neil Young’s greatest music at Wexford Arts Centre on Saturday December 21, at 8.30 p.m. Consisting of James Meyler, Michael Egan and Anne Meyler, along with Mick O’Brien on bass and Keith Devereux on drums, JMA take the songs of the masters and add their own unique edge to the mix. Early booking is advised. Tickets €12.

Church gate collection

County Wexford Community Workshop will hold a church gate collection throughout the town on Saturday, December 28, and Sunday, December 29. All money collected will stay in the workshop to benefit the special needs adults who use the service.

Irish Christmas

On Friday, December 20, at St Iberius Church from 7 p.m. an evening of music, songs, stories and poetry in celebratio­n of a traditiona­l Irish Christmas takes place.

Hosted by Craobh Loch Garman CCÉ/Wexford Comhaltas this is a concert which seeks to convey what makes the Irish Christmas so unique. The evening, which is always very well attended, provides a time-out for each person present. It’s as much an occasion of quiet reflection and an appraising of the year just gone as it is a concert.

Church Choir

On Sunday, December 22, the Bride Street Church Choir will be joined by organist Andrew Johnstone at the 11 a.m. Mass. This will include advent choral and organ music from plainchant to J.S Bach.

Month’s Mind

There will be a Month’s Mind/Memorial Mass for the late Fr Michael (Mal) Sinnott in Clonard on Saturday, January 4, at 2 p.m. followed by light lunch and refreshmen­ts.

Winter solstice

The Hope Cancer Support Centre will be holding their annual Winter Solstice Ceremony of Light and Healing in the Irish National Heritage Park, Ferrycarri­g on Saturday, December 21, at 7.30 p.m.

Clothes

A clothes collection in aid of the Friends of Calcutta takes place on Thursday, December 19, from 12-4 p.m. in the car park of Clonard Community Centre. All items of wearable clothing, including footwear, are accepted. Unfortunat­ely, duvets, cushions and pillows are not accepted.

The Wizard of Oz

Join the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra for a truly magical seasonal favourite, a live screening of the wonderful ‘Wizard of Oz’ at the National Opera House on Thursday, December 19, at 7.30 p.m. With lyrics and songs by Edger Harlburg and Harold Arlen and a lush old-style Hollywood score by Herbert Stothart, this will the perfect musical start to the holiday season that the whole family will love. Please be aware box seats have restricted views.

Tickets €25-€35.

Cinderella

From December 27-30 there will be eight performanc­es of ‘Cinderella’ at the National Opera House, a daily show at 2 p.m. followed by an evening performanc­e at 6.30 p.m.

Brought to you from the creative team behind last year’s smash hit ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and starring George McMahon (Fair City) and RTÉ JR favourites Clara Murray and John Sharpson, ‘Cinderella’ has all the traditiona­l elements of a fabulous festive outing for all the family.

Tickets are €25.

Don Cobra

Accompanie­d by special guest Hot Rod Hearse, South African sleaze rock artist Don Cobra will perform in Red Books, St Peter’s Square, Wexford on Monday, December 23, at 8.30 p.m. Entry is free and coffee and tea will be available.

Mack Fleetwood

Crown Live Presents Mack Fleetwood - A tribute to Fleetwood Mac on December 26, St Stephen’s Night.

Back by popular demand, Mack Fleetwood return for a third time to Crown Live. Tickets are €15 and doors open at 9 p.m.

Urban Anthems

Urban Anthems ‘The Ultimate Brit – Rock Experience’ will play Crown Live on New Year’s Eve. A full band show covering everything Brit-rock from Oasis to Stone Roses, Radiohead, Blur, The Verve, Supergrass and many, many more. Tickets are €15.
