BALLYCOGLEY PLAYERS
Our ‘comic members’ have been very busy recently performing sketches for fundraisers and Christmas parties over the last few weeks which included a concert in aid of Baby Lucy Wall on Saturday, November 30, in Rathangan Hall, Bannow Historical Society’s Christmas party in Wellingtonbridge on Saturday, December 7, and Our Lady’s Island Old Folks Christmas party in Ferrycarrig Hotel on Sunday, December 15.
Well done to all the students at Bridgetown College, who took part in their recent production of ‘All Shook Up’ but a special mention must go to our members Josh Quigley-Power, Jack O’Brien and Justine Murphy, who were all excellent on stage and also to Rory, Conor and Cian Cassidy, who were part of the backstage and lighting crew. We are very proud of you all.
Christmas party time took place for us on Friday, December 6, in Mary Barry’s, Kilmore where we got together and enjoyed a fabulous meal (washed down with a few beverages) Thanks to the staff for looking after us so well, a great night was had by all.
Rehearsals for our circuit play; ‘Dreamland’ have been going very well but unfortunately due to illness one of our stalwart members, Con Doyle has had to take a step back from his character. Readings took place to replace his character last week and Shay Hannon was the successful candidate and will now play ‘Doc’. Best of luck, Shay.
We wish our dear friend Con all the best and look forward to having him back threading the boards very soon.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas. A special thank you for all your support in 2019 and hope 2020 is good to you all.
BALLYCOGLEY BINGO
Ballycogley Bingo took its christmas break on Sunday last and we hope to see you all back again on December 29 following the christmas festivities. We thank you for your support and wish you all a very happy christmas. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the session will begin at 7.30 p.m. with 10 bingo games each night plus the snowball game. Wheel of fortune aswell as high/low games each night aswell. Lots of bingo fun guaranteed. Ample car parking spaces in new adjoining car park.

Schoolgirls and Women’s – The leagues are now breaking for Christmas and fixtures will resume on Saturday, January 5, for 11, 14 and 18 and women will resume on Sunday, January 6.
Happy Christmas to you and yours and wishing you all a peaceful healthy and sporting new year. The under-nine girls where the only schoolgirls’ team out where under-12 had a Saturday off and our two under-16 teams games where called off.
Big well done to the nine girls that travelled out to Curracloe yesterday morning. Sarah had some great saves in goal, Molly and Laura strong in defence, Tara, Nia, Olivia great running in midfield. Nia got a cracker of a goal. Chloe, Aoife and Nancy Kate did brilliant work up front. The future looks bright, very bright indeed for our little club.
Our women travelled the short distance to Drinagh this afternoon to take on home side Wexford Bohs in Division 3 league in very blustery conditions girls played some great football but unfortunately couldn’t break home defence with Melissa coming close to see her shot go narrowly wide – 0-0 at the half way mark. Bohs pushed everything forward assisted by the wind and got their first goal within 15 minutes of second half. The girls battled on and unfortunately the home side sealed victory and three points in closing 15 minutes to win 2-0. Well done to all 13 girls involved this afternoon. Both Men’s teams were back in action.
The A team went down 1-0 away to a last minute Fethard goal. The B team took on league leaders Camolin and were very unlucky not to come away with all three points. Goals from Barry Brennan and Jack Doyle had the lads 2-1 up going into injury time but a very dubious free kick awarded to the home team allowed them to salvage a draw in the dying seconds with a super strike. A great battling performance by the lads so well done to all.
TOMHAGGARD SOCIAL CENTRE
Thank you to everyone who attended the Christmas Gathering last Sunday, those who prepared food, the Social Centre, crafts display and erected the Christmas tree which was turned on by Rene Troy.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed foodstuffs, toiletries, toy’s and clothes to the Wexford People Helping People Hamper Appeal which was held by Kilmore Scouts and Women’s Shed. The donations were collected by Carol Gray from WPHP on Wednesday. She thanked everyone for their generosity and said that they will be distributed to needy people and families in the area.
KILLINICK ICA
The local Killinick ICA guild held its most recent meeting on December 2 and present were president Joan Furlong and sixteen fellow members. Thank you to all of those that supported the fundraising coffee evening held in the Merry Elf with the proceeds going to Pallitive care. The hostesses on the night were Betty Reid and Mary Sinnott with Mary Fenlon and Maura O’Mahoney catering at the next meeting on January 6.
The competition winners were 1ST Mary Crotty 2ND Breda Wright 3RD Marie McNae and the competition for the next meeting is for the nicest verse on a Christmas card. New members are always welcome and we wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year.
BIRTHDAY GREETINGS
Ballycogley man Billy O’Brien was joined by a large gathering of family and friends in Meylers lounge bar Tacumshane during the recent past to celebrate a very special birthday. Always a gentleman and a true supporter of all that is good and no mean darts player and exponent on GAA fields, we wish Billy a very happy birthday.
ST FINTAN’S
The St Fintan’s/Our Lady’s Island under-20 football team suffered defeat at the hands of Castletown in the semi-final of the Greenstar premier B county championships. The fixture was played in Ballymore in very high winds and extremely wet under foot conditions and the fact that it went ahead gave the impression of something that needed to be ‘got rid of’.
The home side played with the wind in the first half and had secured a four point lead after 15 minutes but an exchange of points and then a Castletown goal on twenty five minutes saw the sides draw level after which the home side seemed to get back on top and an own goal by the Castletown captain left the halftime scoreline 1-06 to 1-04 in favour of the home side. Teams traded scores early in the second half but the sending off of Jack O’Leary for two yellow cards saw the north county men make good use of the numerical advantage to run out victorious on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-08.
The St Fintan’s intermediate football team got a great boost on the day when star player Jim Rossitter returned to the playing field following a serious leg injury to line out in the full back position for the Wexford senior football team in a Bord Na Mona O’Byrne cup rd one game versus Westmeath played in unpleasant conditions. Jim was described as a tower of strength and will surely be an ever present in Paul Galvins selections during the coming season.
