Sadness at passing of woman of many talents Kathleen (93)

-

THERE was great sadness following the recent passing of Wexford woman Kathleen Hess (née Redmond) at the age of 93. Formerly of Whitemill Road, Kathleen had been a resident of Castlebridge Manor Nursing Home up until she passed.

In her younger years, Kathleen had trained as a cook and had worked in Dublin before taking up a position in the Christian Brother Manse where she was employed throughout the late 40s and early 50s, prior to her marriage to the love of her life, Jimmy Hess of Whitemill Road.

Later, Kathleen also worked part-time cooking in the Mercy Convent in Summerhill in the early 70s. A woman of many talents, she was also a gifted seamstress and made curtains and did clothes alterations. She had a great eye for detail and plenty of people were thankful having availed of her services. Kathleen was also an expert baker and was famed for her tarts which always went down a treat at the many meetings she attended.

Later in life, Kathleen loved to keep active. She always seemed to be up to something and was an active member of Clonard Active Age. She also loved to head off for walks and one of her favoured destinations was the Friary each day for Mass, where she loved to meet friends and chat afterwards.

Kathleen was a dedicated member of the Stroke Association and she always looked forward to her regular meetings. She is fondly remembered as a kind and gentle lady who was always willing to help others. She is predeceased by her husband Jimmy and her twin sister Maureen Redmond. She is sadly missed by her children Ann, George, Pat, Jacinta, her grandchildren Barry, Neil, Paul, Jacqueline, James, Sharon, Jenny, Jack and Adam, her daughter in laws, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.

Kathleen’s months mind Mass takes place on Saturday, January 25, in Clonard Church at 6 p.m.
