WOMEN’S SHED

The Tomhaggard Women’s Shed celebrated the start of 2020 in style with a lovely lunch at Meyler Millhouse Restaurant Tacumshane.

As always we start the year off with lunch on Nollaig na Mban catching up after the Christmas break and planning the year ahead. It promises to be another year of fun for the women as we are so lucky to have such a wonderful group. In 2019 the membership raised to 48 and still new members coming in.

Our door is open to everyone on Monday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Groups such as ours as ours are so important to the well being and mental health of women especially in rural areas and we would encourage and indeed help any community interested in setting up such a group.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

The schools girls and ladies had a great start to the new year with all teams coming away winners in first games after the Christmas break.

The New year started with our under-11 girls welcoming neighbours Kilmore to big barn. Both teams put on brilliant display for all to see. well done all involved.

Next up our second under-14 team welcomed St Leonards to big barn and after a sluggish start by both teams – great football was played and All Blacks came away with their first three points of the season winning 4-1, with goals from Ava Wallace (2), Saoirse Crosbie and penalty from Jess Cloney – well done all involved.

Our ladies travelled to Cushinstown and came away with three points beating the home side 2-1, with goals from Emma Roche and Melissa Crowley – well done to all 15 involved this morning.

Great 3-1 win for the A team v Rathnure. Three quality goals two from Shane Cassidy and Niall Moore. Well done men, great team performance.

UNDERAGE LEVEL

The performances of St Fintan’s players at underage level during the past year in both hurling and football gave a clear indication that the future looks bright for the adult teams in the years to come. The closest the lads came to claiming silverwear was when the under-20 hurling team was beaten by Askamore in the Greenstar Roinn one championship final.

SEANA GHAEL

National GAA president John Horan paid an official visit to Wexford on Sunday last when he was a guest of honour at the annual Coiste Na Sheana Ghael awards presentation in the Ferrycarrig Hotel. At the function Billy Codd of the St Fintan’s GAA Club recieved a framed scroll for his dedication to the association over many years.

BEREAVEMENT

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Eleanor Hickey of Mayglass and Rosslare Harbour, who sadly passed away on Stephens day last. Her remains were laid to rest in Kilrane cemetery following her funeral Mass in St Fintan’s church Mayglass. May she rest in peace.

ON THE PLAYING FIELDS

Though they may have got the spelling of his name wrong this did not deter St Fintan’s man Jim Rossitter from giving a sterling display with the Wexford senior football team when it took on Offaly in a Bord Na Mona O’Byrne cup group three round three game in faithful Fields Kilcormac.

The St Fintan’s GAA Club was also soundly represented on the Wexford under-20 football team when it was soundly beaten by Carlow in the first round of the Andrew Corden Cup. Shane Pettit was the scorer in chief when he notched up half the teams total score and his overall display bodes well for his future. Keep up the good work lads.
