Concern at damage to Crescent kerbing

-

TRAFFIC damage to kerbing at the new-look Crescent Quay would appear to back up warnings that the road is too narrow for two-way traffic, according to one local councillor.

While quick to praise the new look Crescent Quay, Cllr Tom Forde says ‘it is disappointing to see it damaged so early.’

‘A lot of questions had been raised in relation to the amount of space for two-way traffic to pass each other there, particularly the likes of buses. We were assured by the officials that there would be plenty of space and, to a degree, we have to put our trust in them. However, it’s certainly something that will have to be looked at again now.’

But Mayor of Wexford, Cllr George Lawlor said that the damage to the wall that protects the footpath is a minor issue.

‘It’s a small bit of damage and I’ve been on to the engineer about it already,’ he said. ‘It’s something that can be easily resolved. It would just be a matter of re-enforcing the kerb there. I think that it is wide enough there and generally traffic is flowing freely. This is just a minor issue which will be resolved and I think overall that area of Wexford, from a public realm point of view, is massively improved.’

Cllr Forde says that he has also fielded numerous complaints about the location of the new pedestrian crossing outside TK Maxx.

‘It’s right on the bend there and cars are coming around quite fast,’ he said. ‘I think maybe we may need to look at putting something there to slow cars down before they come up to the crossing.’
