Aldo and Griffin backing D’Arcy

GETTING the endorsements of the right people can make all the difference when it comes around to polling day. This is something clearly recognised by Fine Gael’s Minister Michael D’Arcy who hit the ground running with his campaign, getting some heavy hitters involved.

In the first couple of days of the campaign, the Gorey TD has shared videos of support from Innovate CEO Jim Hughes, hotelier and legendary Wexford hurling manager Liam Griffin and somewhat bizarrely Republic of Ireland and Liverpool legend John Aldridge!

Following a montage of Aldo’s goals set to the tune of the match of the day music, it cuts to a video chat where the legendary striker describes D’Arcy as a ‘top man’.

‘I’ve known him for a good while now,’ Minister D’Arcy said. ‘We’d have mutual friends and that type of thing. He’s a really great character and a really genuine guy.’

Jim Hughes pointed out that Minister D’Arcy has ‘brought about significant change from an employment perspective’, while Mr Griffin waxed lyrical about his work in the area of insurance.

‘Leo Varadkar appointed Michael D’Arcy to be the Minister responsible for bringing about insurance reform and he has taken that responsibility very seriously,’ he said. ‘In my dealings with him relating to this issues, I have found him to be absolutely stellar.’

Mr Griffin continued in his praise for the Fine Gael candidate stating that ‘Michael D’Arcy has been the best Minister I have ever dealt with in relation to any issue and I recognise that his communication skills and his ability to get his point across in a meaningful way has made a big difference. I think we are on the verge of seeing some very good initiatives in relation to insurance, which are badly needed.’

Minister D’Arcy described Mr Griffin as being ‘Wexford through and through’ and said he was ‘very humbled’ by his kind words. Not giving anything away, the Gorey based TD says that there will be some more videos to come. ‘Wait ‘til you see what I have coming next week,’ he laughed.
