Music for Wexford reveals vibrant programme for 2020
MUSIC for Wexford announced an exciting programme for 2020 at a reception in the National Opera House that featured a performance by the a capella group Credo.
This year, Music for Wexford has worked with Musici Ireland, based in Blackwater, plus the composer Liam Bates of Kilmore Quay, to organise four distinctive concerts.
The first concert will pay homage to Beethoven on the 250th anniversary of his birth and to Bruch on the 100th anniversary of his death.
The second concert will celebrate Arvo Pärt’s work for voice and strings.
The third event, a summer concert, will bring together a large string ensemble of professional musicians and young players selected by audition, led by Mia Cooper and conducted by Liam Bates.
The series will conclude with ‘Christmas by Candlelight’ with Wexford tenor Eamonn Mulhall, a Musici Ireland ensemble and Wexford guests, including Liam Bates.
The summer music series will largely be devoted to young performers, including ensembles from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, selected by audition.
Music for Wexford is also delighted to welcome back the Con Tempo Quartet (with the assistance of the National String Quartet Foundation) to present two of Beethoven’s magnificent string quartets.
The 2020 programme will begin with a concert in St Iberius Church on Sunday, February 9, at 3.30p.m. by two of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians, Patrick Rafter on violin and Michael McHale on piano, marking their first recital in Wexford together. They will play works by Mozart, Debussy, Franck, Monti and Ysaÿe.
