Mary marks Ruby anniversary at Our Lady of Fatima
MARY Prunty has marked 40 years of service to Our Lady of Fatima School, with a special celebration at the school.
Having begun her career as a special needs assistant (SNA) at the school in 1980, Mary’s years of services were honoured with an assembly attended by staff and students.
Fr Aodhán Marken presented statues of ‘Our Lady of Fatima with Children’, which had been donated by a kind benefactor, to Mary, who accepted them on behalf of Our Lady of Fatima School.
He then thanked Mary for her wonderful work and dedication to the school over the past 40 years.
Mary was also presented with gifts and flowers from students, staff and the board of management of Our Lady of Fatima School.
To round off the occasion and end Mary’s Ruby Anniversary in style, she and the school staff visited Schnitzel Haus for a meal and further celebrations.
‘We are very thankful that Mary has been part of the Fatima community for the last 40 years, and we wish her our love and best wishes for many years to come,’ said Bridget Leacy of Our Lady of Fatima School.
‘Congratulations, Mary, on your Ruby anniversary from everybody at Our Lady of Fatima School.’
The school itself was founded in 1968 to facilitate the needs of children with a learning difficulty.
Currently, over 100 students between the ages of four and 18 from all over the county attend Our Lady of Fatima School.
Along with principal Rita Waters, the school has a deputy principal, 11 class teachers, one ASD support teacher, 12 special needs assistants, a part-time home economics teacher, a part-time art teacher, a secretary, a school aid and two caretakers. The school also offers speech therapy for those students who require it, plus it has a team of volunteers who help in its classrooms.
