Future steps for students

-

STUDENTS from across the county gathered at the Ferrycarrig Hotel for a seminar that provided advice on what to expect from life after school.

Entitled ‘What Next?’, the event was organised by Wexford and Enniscorthy Credit Unions and featured presentations from Darren Malone of the Union of Students Ireland (USI), nutritional therapist Ellen Hogan, board member of Wexford Mental Health Association Niall Ó Muirí and Seamus Whitney of Whitney Career Guidance.

Darren represents more than 60,000 students on social and academic issues. He has worked with hundreds of students on issues relating to accommodation, finances and mental health and equality, and provided an insight into these issues on the night.

Ellen’s passion for integrative medicine began after she experienced a life-threatening battle with M.E. She regularly attends conferences, advocating change in the way we look at our bodies, our food, our lives, our health and our happiness.

Niall delivers mental health awareness talks and workshops to both secondary schools and community groups in county Wexford, plus he is the author of two plays on the subject of mental health.

Whitney Career Guidance has been working with people to help achieve their career and personal goals since its formation in 1988.

Amy Furlong of Wexford Credit Union said, ‘Both Credit Unions felt they accomplished their goal of educating the students who attended in the areas they believed were of the utmost importance when considering the next step after school.’
