Trainers McCann and Roche triumph on double

A NINE-RACE card featured at Enniscorthy dog track on Thursday, with doubles recorded by owners Eilish McCann (Gorey) and George Roche (Barntown), and some fast times also recorded.

Indeed, it was the George Roche-owned Minnies Baikal who was fastest on the night in race seven, an A1/2 525.

He tracked leader Hollylake Curly down the back stretch before going to the lead off the third bend, and then drawing right away up the straight to score a clearcut five-length win in a very fast 28.80 -30 slow.

It was his eleventh career win and his fastest-ever time, and the double was completed in the next race as Barstool Rio, who led off the second bend, looked like he would score well from that favourable position.

However, Kiltrea Chloe came home well to get to within half a length and grab second from the prominent running Lady Diva near the line in a time of 29.48 -30 slow.

It was a first and last race double for Eilish McCann from Gorey who saw her Ballinclare Reva get to the lead off the second bend, seeming to have put the race to bed when going on nicely off the third bend.

Bistro Lord had challenged her all the way and ran hard to the line, but

Ballinclare was not for catching and won by three-quarters of a length in a good 29.27 -30 slow.

In the ninth race, Ballinclare Enda got out well from trap five and led up before powering on all the way to the line to complete the double in a time of 29.32 -30 slow.

Race five saw a good win for Wexford owner Brendan Frayne when his Zalas Girl broke fast from her trap six box to lead before running out a ready winner in a time of 29.30 -30 slow.

Things are starting to get into full swing now, with the Easter Unraced Stake, advertised for 48 entries ,due to start on Monday, March 9

This stake has proven to be a top-class one in recent years, and March 9 is a date for your diary for sure.
