HOW OUR LEADERS ARE DOING RIGHT NOW

- LIAM DOYLE

Hi, it’s Liam here. We are a few weeks in now and I’m starting to see an improvement in my fitness levels. I’m getting a few runs in on my own during the week when we are not meeting up as a group for training. I’m not concerned at the moment about times as it’s more about getting long runs in without stopping. We had another beep test with Sean at Nolan Health and Fitness last Saturday and I was happy with the progress I’m making so far. As well as this, we had a training session with Kevin at the Sports Hub last Thursday, which was tough going, and we’ll have another session this Thursday, so I can’t wait for that. We also have pilates this Saturday with Jane in Wexford Pilates Studio. Hope you are all following the plan and don’t forget to register! We’re four weeks into our training now and it’s going really well. Most of us are attending the bootcamp circuit training at Nolans gym on Tuesday nights, where we are pushed to our limits. It’s great to see an improvement in our fitness every week! I have been doing my running training in my own time during the week. Then, on Saturdays, we have been meeting up to do some training at the gym or going for a run. A week ago, a few of us managed to run for 40 minutes, with a little breather in between, which was great. Doing it together makes you push on that bit more. We had another beep test on Saturday and I was delighted to see a big improvement in my fitness level. I’m going to continue to work hard towards seeing a further improvement at our next test. I hope everyone is enjoying the training and the benefits of getting fitter! So, we have received our schedule from Kevin and are beginning to get stuck into training. Unfortunately, our house came down with sickness and myself and two of my daughters were ill – this meant a week break from doing any exercise. It always feels like you take a huge step back when you have had a break from it. On getting back to training, I could feel a slight twinge in my legs. I’ve made the conscious decision that this time around I am not going to be pushing myself to run so many kilometres within a short period of time. I pushed myself too hard last time, which resulted in injury (nobody’s fault but my own), so now I am basing it on how long I can run at a pace that is not putting my legs under too much pressure. Instead of doing bootcamp in the gym, I have been using the cross trainer to avoid any high-impact actions on my legs. I also think a visit to Bryan and Julie in Crouch & Kirwan may be on the cards, as the last time I completed the Leader programme I found them very beneficial with my injuries.
