Bluebird recognised for commitment to environmental improvements
THE Wexford branch of Bluebird Care has been awarded the EcoMerit Environmental Certification in recognition of its commitment to ongoing environmental improvement.
Located on Trinity Street, Bluebird Care provides care and support in the home and community to people of all ages and abilities and is the first home care company in Ireland to achieve this award.
The award recognises the centre’s programme of energy, waste and water efficiencies which it carried out to reduce its environmental footprint. On receiving the EcoMerit Certification, Michael Corcoran, Managing Director said, ‘We are delighted to receive EcoMerit Certification and are looking forward to using the programme to help us meet our environmental sustainability goals.
‘We are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and this certification process enables us to focus on improvements and to measure the outcomes.
On awarding the certificate, EcoMerit managing director Phil Walker said ‘Now more than ever, Ireland needs its businesses to rise to the challenge of climate change. Bluebird Care in Wexford joins an Ireland-wide EcoMerit community who are doing just that - with practical measures which make a real, measurable difference.’
Bluebird Care Wexford has also invested in carbon offsets by supporting the Hometree charity in Co. Clare which plants native Irish trees.
These trees qill be planted on Moy Hill farm in Co. Clare and, will over the course of their lives, offset the carbon that Bluebird Care Wexford uses in the course of its business.
This is a significant development in Bluebird Care’s ambition to become carbon neutral. The EcoMerit Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual review of the company’s commitment to meet the criteria of the EcoMerit Programme.
