Phil Coulter to headline St Peter’s concert in June

-

FOLLOWING its successful, inaugural concert last year, St Peter’s College has announced Phil Coulter will be the headline act at this year’s event, which takes place on Saturday, June 27.

Event organiser and deputy principal of the school Sean Foley said, ‘This is our second open-air, front lawn, all-seated summer concert. This year, it will feature Phil Coulter, supported by the Loch Garman Band and other special guests.

‘This should again prove to be an incredible evening of music in an idyllic setting overlooking the town of Wexford, the harbour and beyond.’

Now 77, Coulter has amassed 23 platinum discs, 39 gold discs, 52 silver discs, two Grand Prix Eurovision awards, five Ivor Novello Awards, which includes Songwriter of the Year, three American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers awards, a Grammy nomination, a Meteor Award, a National Entertainment Award and a Rose d’or d’Antibes.

He also wrote ‘Ireland’s Call’, the anthem played before Irish rugby matches.

Last year, the Celtic Tenors played to a hugely appreciative crowd at Summerhill for what was a celebration of the school’s 200th anniversary. It was also a way of helping the school raise funds for its new astro pitch, and this year’s concert will once again be used for that purpose.

Describing the upcoming concert as being held ‘in a picturesque setting’ and ‘an event not to be missed’, president of St Peters College Past Pupils Union Declan Cloney confirmed the proceeds will go towards a charity and the development of a new all-weather astro sports pitch.
