Quiz night in aid of Carnegie Hall debut by Stagefright
Award-winning a capella group Stagefright hosted a well-attended table quiz in Wexford Golf Club to raise funds for their forthcoming trip to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall.
Stagefright, under the direction of Rebecca Warren, are the only Irish group to be selected for the sixth annual Total Vocal concert in Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 29.
As well as singing with other international choirs, the Wexford group have been specially chosen for a solo performance of Roar by Katie Perry.
Dr. Jonathan Griffith, artistic director and principal conductor of Distinguished Concerts International New York City which hosts the event, sais Stagefright were invited to take part because of ‘the high level of musicianship and demonstrated by the singers as well as the high quality of their audition recording.’
‘It is quite an honour just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for their entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community’s recognition and support’, he said.
Stagefright will spend five days in New York in preparation for the concert, rehearsing for about 10 hours during that time and also taking in the cultural sights of the city.
They held a number of fundraising events for the trip, the latest being a table quiz in the Golf Club, with 25 teams taking part.
The question setter and quiz master was John Goggins who kept everyone on their toes with a number of challenging questions in each round.
Stagefright members collected answer sheets, totted up the scores, sold raffle tickets and even sang a song at the end.
Betty Furlong of Stagefright thanked the sponsors, everyone who donated raffle prizes and all those who turned up to support them.
