Relay ball raises €11,000
SUPPORTERS of Relay for Life Wexford enjoyed a glittering charity ball in Clayton Whites Hotel which raised an impressive €11,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.
The foyer of the hotel buzzed with activity as more than 400 guests arrived for a champagne reception with entertainment by singer Hayley Crosbie. The first 100 women received a complimentary rose from Slaney Flowers.
It was a celebrity-style occasion as Kenny Ruttledge and Ray Connolly photographed guests on the red carpet where the names of the sponsors including iPhixx, Dwyer Dental, Tom Sinnott Bus and Premier Coaches, were displayed.
There was silence for a performance by the visiting Sea of Change Choir of the Relay for Life anthem ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ by Andy Grammar.
The committees of Relay for Life and the Sole Mates team who organised the charity ball, joined the choir for their final song ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman, for a standing audience united against cancer.
The choir is comprised of cancer survivors whose singing took them to the finals of Ireland’s Got Talent.
‘This was so special and so emotional to be part of’, said Sole Mates captain Yvonne Keane, who organised the event with Jennifer O’ Connor and Jennifer Corrigan. The trio were delighted to announce the fundraising figure of €11,000.
A four course meal was followed by dancing to the sounds of Divine Invention and D.J. Lee Hynes as Relay for Life teams enjoyed a night of socialising together.
This was the second annual charity ball hosted by the Sole Mates team with last year’s event raising more than €9,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.
More than 50 teams have already registered for this year’s Relay for Life which will take place at Páirc Charman in July.
The 24-hour relay in aid of the Cancer Society, celebrates cancer survivors, remembers those who have died and raises finance for cancer research. The 2019 event raised a massive €130,000 and the organisers are hoping to surpass that figure this year.
