BIKE RUN RAISES €5,500 FOR PAT’S REHABILITATION

-

HAVING suffered a terrible accident when his motorbike collided with a car near Killurin in August of last year, Ballyhogue native Pat ‘Scruff ’ Carroll was left with an incredibly difficult road ahead of him. He suffered terrible injuries, many of them internal and required extensive rehabilitation.

Less than a year later, Pat is back on his feet and walking with the aid of crutches. Having badly damaged his spinal cord, Pat is far from out of the woods and still requires fairy intensive rehabilitation.

It was with this in mind that his friends Ray Cullen and Paddy Fortune decided to round up the troops and stage a major fundraiser to help with some of the costs involved.

Ray and Paddy called on bikers across the county to saddle up and take to the road for a special motorbike run across the roads of Wexford. There was a great uptake and some 50 riders arrived on the day before joining in the festivities at the benefit night in Marty B’s later that night with music from Mark Monaghan, Last Orders and Kiss My Grass.

‘It was a great success,’ said Ray. ‘We were delighted with the turnout even though the weather wasn’t great for it. Everyone really got behind it. In the end we raised €5,500 and that money will be used to go towards Pat’s rehabilitation and anything left will go towards helping to make changes to his house. I’d like to thank everyone who got involved and came along on the day, as well as everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and helped in any way.’
