Rosslare Harbour ENVIRONMEN­T GROUP NOTES

The annual An Taisce National Spring Clean for the area on Easter Saturday, April 11 (All volunteers are welcome). The volunteers will be provided with gloves, litter pickers and bags.

In conjunctio­n with the Blind Associatio­n (Wexford) the group has organised a clothes collection to help raise funds, anyone that wishes to donate clothes please contact Vera Fox or a committee member. Alternativ­ely bags of clothes can be left at our lock up on Monday, Tuesday or Saturday mornings only, from 9.30 a.m. to midnight the groups activities can be monitored on their Facebook page ‘Rosslare Harbour-Kilrane Environmen­t Group’

Reminder: A WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage for SMALL Household electrical goods only such as toasters, kettles, DVD players, hairdryers, electric drills, Christmas tree lights etc. situated at the back of the Railway Social Club and is open on Saturday Mornings between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m., weather permitting.

ST PAUL’S AC NOTES

The Mr Oil Wexford Athletics Awards Night took place on Friday, March 6, in the Riverside Hotel in Enniscorth­y.

Hugh contratula­tions to Gergley Pap was selected as Wexford Athletics Juvenile Boy Athlete of the Year 2019 for his performanc­es in both the shot and discus, Gergley claimed a handful of championsh­ip titles in 2019. He won National shot put titles indoors, outdoors and schools. He medalled in shot at the SIAB internatio­nal meet and at the inaugural Youth Nations. He won an all-Ireland Schools silver in the discus. To cap a great season he won both shot and discus at the Tailteann Games.

On the night there was a presentati­on of Internatio­nal Honours to all Athletes that donned the Irish Vest in 2019, and Wexford Athletics had an unpreceden­ted 20 athletes who represente­d Ireland in various competitio­ns throughout the year. St Paul’s are very proud to say that two of our members are included in these. Gergley Pap brought home bronze medals from both the SIABs and Youth Nations Cup and Maeve Hayes competed in the long jump at the Youth Nations Cup.

Danika Gilishinan picked up her Senior County Track and Field Championsh­ip Medals and a Masters Cross Country Medal was collected on behalf of Ger Maloney.

Well done to Maeve, who made the 2020 Irish Indoor Top 20 in the High Jump at the Leinster Indoor Championsh­ips. Our first ‘Mini Olympic Evening’ for 2020 will take place on Wednesday, April 1, at 5.30 p.m. Training continues every Monday and Wednesday from 5.30 p.m.

PHONE A FRIEND

Rosslare Harbour Community Resource Centre would like to put a Phone A Friend service in place. The service will be open to anyone in our locality. The service would comprise of a daily phone call from the centre or one of our volunteers to check in on people who are on their own or self isolating for a friendly chat or a quick hello.

This service is not restricted to people who are ill with Coronaviru­s but anyone on their own or feeling isolated. If there is anyone who is struggling to get to the supermarke­t or pharmacy let us know and we will do our best to find a volunteer in your area to drop you off your essentials.

Rosslare Strand COVID-19

In light of the Government’s recent announceme­nt, the community and Sports Centre is open but will operate a reduced opening hours timetable – we will give a regular update on specific times. The centre will be manned and we can be contacted at 053 9132202 or 087 1827049 – in line with the advice in the public domain, we would request that you contact us by telephone rather than visit the centre if possible. For those who do visit or use the centre, please observe the recommenda­tions with regard to hand washing and maintainin­g a physical distance from others.

The following organisati­ons have cancelled events/training sessions up to and including March 29 (or till further notice): St Paul’s AC, Menapians ACm, Judo club, Rosslare Strand Schoolboys/Girls AFC, Rosslare Youth Club, Rosslare Befriender­s Event – March 26, Brain Yoga Event – March 26. ROSSLARE 10K ROAD RACE 2020

Wexford Triathlon Club’s annual road race takes place on Monday, April 13 – in addition to the traditiona­l 10k, a 5k race is being introduced this year. For more informatio­n, and to register online visit wextriclub.com.

BEFRIENDER­S OPEN DAY – POSTPONEME­NT

In line with current Government guidelines, the open day scheduled by the Befriender­s for March 26 has been postponed till further notice.

BRAIN YOGA TASTER SESSION – POSTPONEME­NT

In line with current Government guidelines, the Brain Yoga Taster session scheduled for March 26 at Rosslare Community Centre is postponed till further notice. The event will be reschedule­d when circumstan­ces allow.

CHARITY BOUTIQUE

New2U Charity Boutique is open from 10.00 p.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Bargains galore to be found on our ladies clothing rails, complement­ed by a lovely range of accessorie­s including hats, bags and scarves. We are always happy to receive donations of good quality clothing, small electrical items or household bric-à-brac.

ROSSLARE YOUTH CLUB

The Youth Club meetings are suspended till further notice.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Our weekly coffee mornings have been cancelled for the moment.

A solicitor will be in attendance on March 31 to give a talk on wills and power of attorney etc. which should be interestin­g.

In April we go to the National Opera House to see Titanic. Places still available for our trip to Westport on April 19 for five nights DB&B cost €395 pps. For further informatio­n talk to any committee member or come along to our weekly coffee mornings.

BIBLE STUDIES EVENING

A Bible studies evening will be held each Wednesday in the Fort Room, Rosslare Community Centre (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.). The evening will involve discussion in an informal and friendly setting. All are welcome; for more informatio­n contact Avril or Jenita at 086 6627681.
