Danone Nutrition appeals for calm over panic buying of baby formula

- By MARIA PEPPER

The Wexford-based company Danone Nutrition which makes baby food said it understands the anxiety suffered by parents who are experiencing difficulty in obtaining products due to stockpiling sparked by the coronavirus crisis.

Danone appealed to consumers to think before they buy and please only buy what you and your family need. ‘If we all do this, then together we can help make sure we have enough for everyone’, said a spokeswoman.

Certain baby food products have been disappearing off Wexford supermarket and pharmacy shelves as soon as they are stocked and some people have been resorting to going online to find items.

‘During the Covid-19 outbreak, we’d like to reassure parents that we are sending out regular, daily supplies of our products to all retailers’, said the Danone spokeswoman.

‘As shelves in stores are replenished, parents should be able to find their usual formula products although they may need to go to more than one store.

‘Behind the scenes, we are working hard to ensure that our products get to stores as fast as we can, and we are currently increasing our production capacity to maintain good supplies. We support retailers who have already introduced a sensible two-pack limit on the amount of powder formula that can be purchased in one transaction and are bringing in limits on the maximum number of liquid products.

‘We understand that this situation is causing anxiety and we would like to reassure parents that we are doing everything we can to get supplies out and ensure they can get our products.’ Customers can get information on the companies brand websites at www.aptaclub.ie/stock-levelsduring-the-covid-19-outbreak or www.candyclub.ie/supply-during-covid-19-outbreak or via the carelines C&G Club 1800570570 or Aptclub 1800221234.
