Dear Reader,
A new reality has dawned for each and every one of us. The impact the coronavirus has had, and will have, on our nation is unprecedented in living memory.
Our lives are turned upside down, our working rhythms and daily routines with our families shattered.
The threat to the health and very life of local people cannot be overestimated.
The importance of winning the desperate battle that lies ahead for our heroic health service cannot be understated.
Now is the time for a collective response from society as a whole, each member taking responsibility for their own actions.
Now is the time to stay together by staying apart.
Now is the time for the local heroes – the health professionals in the frontline putting themselves in harm’s way every day – to be recognised and respected.
And now is the time for clear and reliable local journalism that explains exactly what this unfolding situation means for you, steers you towards any help you might need and offers reassurance, all with a calm, steady hand.
While we as a people need to stay apart, today we would like you to know that the Wexford People is with you every step of the way.
Through the worst of times and the best of times – for well over 160 years – the Wexford People has reported the local news that really matters to our readers.
We remain committed to providing balanced and objective reporting and analysis, giving you the information you need to make the best decision for you, your family and your community.
In the interests of public health our offices are closed but we are open for business.
Our newsroom is empty but our editors and journalists are working remotely and staying safe to bring you the most comprehensive local news service and the regular features familiar to our readers.
This includes an obituaries section that’s free of charge, giving grieving families an opportunity to pay fitting tribute to their loved ones at a time when the restrictions on social gatherings add stress to an already very difficult situation.
Through the current crisis, the Wexford People continues to publish each week, every Tuesday morning.
If your usual outlet has been forced to close, you’ ll still find your local paper in nearby shops and supermarkets. If you can’t, get in touch with us and we’ll try to help.
Alternatively, you can take out a subscription and have your paper delivered right to your door. For details of how to do this and how much it costs, turn to page 19.
You can also keep in touch with news from the local community on our Facebook page and on our website at www.wexfordpeople.ie
Together, we will defeat coronavirus and emerge from it as stronger, tighter, more resilient communities than ever before.
In the meantime, please get your Covid-19 local news and information from a trusted and reliable source. Above all, stay safe.
