Shock as man dies of stab wounds
THERE was widespread shock throughout Enniscorthy at the weekend after a man died following an alleged stabbing incident at a house in the Ashbrook estate in Greenville Lane.
The incident occurred in the very early hours of Friday morning with a garda spokesperson telling this newspaper that the first report relating to the incident came in at around half-past-midnight.
The victim, Przemyslaw Klimczuk, is believed to have resided at the house. He was a divorced father-of-two who was a highly respected member of the workforce in Irish Country Meats.
Staff there were very upset when news began to filter through about what happened.
It’s believed there were four people in the house at the time of the incident and Mr Klimczuk had been drinking with two of the other people on Thursday evening.
The garda spokesperson said that following the report to the station a large number of gardai went to the scene where ‘a man in his early 40s was discovered with apparent stab wounds’.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene where his remains lay until the arrival of the state pathologist and scenes of crime investigators – who arrived shortly before 12.30 p.m.
The scene was preserved throughout Friday as garda specialists carried out a forensic examination of the scene.
Mr Klimczuk’s remains were removed from the house by staff from Crosbies Funeral Home and brought to Dublin for a post-mortem examination.
Mr Klimczuk, who was originally from Poland, had been living in Gorey for many years before moving recently to Enniscorthy.
A row is believed to have broken out around midnight and a short time later Mr Klimczuk received stab wounds to his torso.
He collapsed in the house and the gardai were notified about what happened.
In addition to the gardai, paramedics also attended the scene and despite their best efforts to try and stabilise him Mr Klimczuk died at the scene.
It’s believed a blood-stained knife was recovered by gardai at the scene.
The suspect in the case, a local man in his early 40s, was arrested a short time later, a short distance from where the incident occurred.
The gardai made a court application on Friday evening for a 24-hour extension of retention of preservation of the house to enable the technical forensic examination to be finalised.
The suspect was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and brought to Wexford Garda Station where he was questioned in relation to the incident.
The man was released without charge on Saturday evening and a file on the matter is now being prepared for the DPP.
Commenting on the incident Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy summed up the feelings of residents and highlighting that the area where the incident occurred is a quiet location said: ‘People are in complete shock that something like this would happen in Enniscorthy.
