Carnew Mart goes online

-

CARNEW Mart held its very first online sale this week and although it was a new milestone for all the team, they described it as a tremendous success with a full clearance of the quality stock on offer.

A total of 40 dairy stock were sold, made up of mostly freshly calved heifers.

Although Covid-19 has been a challenge for the mart, bringing with it uncertainties, the team have worked hard to make the best of a difficult situation.

‘In the current situation all the team in Carnew Mart have worked hard to comply with all the regulations to continue to supply the best-possible service for our customers in the safest possible manner. We greatly appreciate the support and cooperation we have received from our staff and customers to remain operational,’ said Eilish Quinn of Carnew Mart.

Operating the new online auction system via the website allows cattle to be sold on a live stream while being described in detail by auctioneer David Quinn. At the same time, the limited staff manage the open ring space, which is usually packed with people.

‘The live auction gives us our bidding basis without the necessity of having customers around the ring,’ said Elish.

The thought of losing this important season to Covid-19 was a real fear for David Quinn after Covid-19 restrictions closed down marts in late March, causing stress for farmers, food producers and marts.

Clarity from the Department of Agriculture was soon welcomed, which saw fit that these marts could go ahead in a new capacity like this.

To register your interest in this new process, log onto carnewmart.ie and click the ‘live online auction’.

You will need to login with a mobile number registered with the mart to make a bid and live streaming is supported on the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Firefox web browser on desktop computer and mobile devices.
