Bannow Ballymitty GRANTSTOWN COMMUNITY VILLAGE

Grantstown residents are doing really well with their cocooning during these difficult circumstances. To continue to keep them safe and following HSE guidelines we would only ask authorised personnel to enter the avenue for the immediate future. However, if you need urgent access, please do not hesitate to ring Lesley at 051561016 or 087 2134073.

A big thank you to all our volunteers, who are continuing to do Trojan work in supporting all our residents and the vulnerable in the community.

We continue to offer 5 threecourse meals to all in the community and thank our local potato supplier, Bernie Whelan for continuing to donate potatoes.

Our residents are keeping fit, active and having lots of fun by joining in our keep fit/dance classes while being aware of social distancing. We have also set up a weekly socialising meeting via Zoom. This is a fun online chat where we can all see each other and catch up from the safety of your own homes. All in the community are welcome to join the Zoom meeting and we have managed to obtain a spare laptop and a few tablets if you wish to use one and join in. Contact Lesley, she is there to take your calls, arrange delivery if necessary, and help get you set up.

Our excellent volunteers are continue doing supermarket, post office and chemist errands and a big thank you to all that are helping us get through these tough times.

This is a challenging time for everyone. We are here to help and if you feel we can help you or if you are worrying about anyone in our community, please pick up the phone and give us a call at 051 561016.

Tagoat UPDATE FROM ST. MARY’S DAY CARE

Hello everyone, we hope you are all doing well, please remember that you are not alone, we are just at the end of the phone should you need to contact us (053-9132624). We greatly miss you coming to the Day Care Centre, but, we thank you for staying at home during these very challenging times, and we look forward to the day we are all back together in the Centre.

Over the last number of weeks, we have enjoyed chatting with you, and it appears you are spending so much time in your kitchen you all seem to be cooking up a storm, which made me wonder would there be any chance you could all write out your favourite recipe or dish from bygone days.( the best dishes always seems to be from our childhood, I think.!)

If you don’t have a recipe, but you do have a favourite dish, that’s ok too, just let us know what it is, and we will try to source the recipe.

You can write out your suggestions and/or recipes on paper and either give them to your post man/woman, you can give them to our meals on wheels delivery people or if you have anyone going to SuperValu to do your shopping Anita in the Post Office has kindly agreed to accept them on our behalf.

Let us try and recreate some childhood memories, and who knows maybe we will be able to print them in the coming months. We will just have to wait and see what we get in, so to all our patrons and the wider community put your thinking caps on and get back to the handwriting…cos, I am really really looking forward to receiving them.

TaghmonCamross GAA CLUB NOTES

Almost all club activity has ground to a halt over the last six weeks or so on account of the ongoing public health emergency. The club lotto is suspended and the grounds have been completely shut for a month at this stage. Hopefully the gates re-open some time soon and things return to normal over the course of the summer.

In the meantime some club members have been busy helping with the Community Call initiative and are ready and available to help anyone in the community requiring help with groceries or prescriptions.

Meanwhile our players have been trying to keep up their fitness levels as best they can with short local runs and other home based workouts.

They have now decided to put this training to good use by running a fundraiser for Pieta House next weekend. From 7.30 next Friday night (May 8) the players and members will maintain a run and walk for 24 hours while respecting the social distancing guidelines,

The 24 hours will be split into 30 minute slots. The men’s team, camogie team, ladies’ football team and boys minor team will ensure that someone will be running for the duration of the 24 hours (while observing up to date government guidelines).

We will be encouraging all club members to get involved during the day. Please keep an eye out for details of how to get involved or to make a donation on the clubs social media sites. Your support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.
