Women released following stabbing
MAN RECOVERING IN HOSPITAL AFTER INCIDENT ON SUNDAY MORNING
TWO women have been released without charge having been questioned at Wexford Garda Station in relation to a stabbing incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardaí were called to the scene at Fortunes Field in Clonard shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday where they discovered a man in his early 40s with ‘a number of stab wounds’. An ambulance was immediately called for and the man was rushed to Wexford General Hospital where his injuries were said to have been ‘non life-threatening’. Both women were arrested at the scene.
The scene was cordoned off and a full garda technical examination was carried out.
GARDAÍ responded to a call shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday morning and found a man in his early 40s with apparent stab wounds at the Fortunes Field estate in Clonard.
Just before 1 a.m screams could be heard around the small estate. Neighbours rushed out to see what had happened and, it’s reported, that a child had emerged from the house calling for help. The gardaí were immediately summoned and acted quickly to calm the situation.
‘We received the report of a serious incident and when we arrived at the scene we found a male with a number of stab wounds,’ a garda spokesperson said. ‘The scene was preserved and a full forensic examination was carried out. The man was brought to Wexford General Hospital and his injuries are not life threatening.’
It is understood that the man was still recovering at Wexford General Hospital yesterday (Monday) morning.
There was a strong garda presence at the estate over the course of Sunday morning and the house remained cordoned off while a full search was carried out. It is unclear whether any weapon used in the stabbing was recovered and this information was not provided by gardaí for operational reasons.
Two local women aged in their 30s were arrested at the scene and were brought to Wexford Garda Station for questioning. Both were later released without charge. However, files are currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.
‘If anyone has any information in relation to this incident or may have witnessed anything, we would urge them to get in touch with us at Wexford Garda Station on 053 9165200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or at any Garda Station,’ the garda spokesman urged.
The houses at Fortunes Field are under the operation of housing body Co-operative Housing Leinster and residents say there have been ongoing issues with anti-social behaviour since the estate was completed late last year.
