Birthday messages from down under for Archie
Marking life’s special occasions while in social isolation
WITH some of his family members living as far away as Australia, Archie Sexton never expected to receive birthday messages from all of his uncles, aunts and cousins on his big day on May 4.
But thanks to his godmother Lorraine, that’s exactly what happened.
‘Lorraine is Archie’s godmother and she got everyone in the family to send her clips of them wishing him a happy birthday and then she made it into a video for him,’ explained Samantha, the birthday boy’s mother.
‘Some sang him songs and his cousins played him music on their tin whistle and concertina. My brother Paul lives in Australia and his wife works in the hospital there. She wasn’t there when he was recording his clip so Paul did some hand-drawings of her instead.’
The video also contained birthday wishes from his uncle, nana Marian and granddad Peter in Dublin.
‘Archie was delighted, he’s watched it 10 ten times since yesterday, and at the end, when his granny and grandad appear, he waves at them every time, he misses them so much,’ said Samantha.
A further surprise was in store when Archie went outside and discovered his best friend Mia had left a present for him on his front gate; flowers and playdoh and a card.
Having watched the video over and over again, Archie and his brother Harley then held a small party in their back garden, and were joined from the other side of the fence by their other grandparents, Angela and Brian, who live right beside them.
