COLOURFUL DISPLAY SHOWS SUPPORT FOR HOSPITAL STAFF

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

AS we’re finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel in our battle against Covid-19, the support of the people of Wexford for our frontline staff has been unwavering.

Driving past Wexford General Hospital at the moment, this support is perhaps more evident than ever as part of a new campaign run by Wexford County Council and Wexford

GAA.

The idea was a simple one. The call went out for GAA clubs across the county to send in their flags to be erected outside the hospital to show their support. The response was fantastic and currently over 20 flags hang proudly on the railings with the amount set to be doubled this week.

‘We saw it as an opportunity for people across Wexford to show their support for our frontline workers,’ said Head of Communications at Wexford County Council David Minogue.

‘We thought the best way to show this support was for people to send in their parish colours. Staff in the hospital have already been onto us and they say it gives them a great lift as they head into work or come off a difficult shift.’

Mr Minogue has urged any club or organisation, not just GAA clubs, who would like to be included to send on their flag to them at Wexford County Council and they can arrange for it to be put up.

The address is COVID-19 Community Support, Wexford County Council, County Hall, Wexford, Y35WY93.

It is recommend the flag should be 3 ft by 5ft in size (if possible) and given it will be displayed publicly on the railings it may not possible for the flag to be returned.
