Ebosele the hat-trick hero as Moyne master Gorey

-

SOME PLAYERS are earmarked for bigger and better things from a very early age, and Festy Ebosele certainly fitted into that category.

Anybody who watched him shine on the schoolboys scene in Wexford won’t be in the least bit surprised that he has gone on to be capped by the Republic of Ireland at under-age international level, as well as joining Derby County.

And he underlined his obvious potential in Hollygrove on May 16, 2015, when his hat-trick powered Moyne Rangers to a convincing 4-1 win over Gorey Rangers in the Wexford and District Schoolboys Under-13 Cup final.

Reporter Dean Goodison noted that - in spite of the threegoal margin - collectively one side was as good as the other.

‘The difference was quite simply the moments of brilliance produced by hat-trick hero Ebosele,’ he wrote.

The star player latched on to a neat through ball from Cathal Roche to open the scoring, and his second goal was a memorable individual effort.

He picked up possession on the right touchline inside his own half, cut inside, and danced past two defenders before coolly firing past netminder Alan Hayes for a second time.

Another strike was ruled out for offside, but Moyne did go three up two minutes before the interval when their captain, Jack Kirwan - winner of a Leinster Minor hurling medal with Wexford last year - hit a stunning shot from the centre circle that flew into the roof of the net.

Darragh Levingston briefly gave Gorey Rangers hope on the re-start with an exquisite finish from a free-kick, but it was fittingly left to the outstanding Ebosele to have the final say.

Cathal Roche was the provider once more in the last minute, with the hat-trick completed with a sublime dinked finish.
