OUR PARISH JOURNAL

This year’s Journal is still in the process of gathering the last of articles and photos so you still have time to get them in. We may publish a bit later this year. If you have any wedding photos over the last year we would love to include it. If you had a baby in the last year and would like to give us the date of birth to be included in the journal. With so many people at home it’s a good time to write something for the journal so if you have an article you would like included or an old photograph let us know. If you have anything you would like included please contact Anne Farrell at 086 8469131 or Nicola at 087 6859868.

GRANTSTOWN NEWS

We thank our wonderful Grantstown

residents for keeping safe and now continuing to enjoy the slight relaxation of cocooning by having the freedom of walking within the safety of our grounds or up to five k, while being aware of social distancing. It is not easy for them cocooning, but to continue to keep them safe and following HSE guidelines we would only ask authorised personnel to enter the avenue for the immediate future and for the appropriate PPE equipment to be worn. However, if you need urgent access, please do not hesitate to ring Lesley at 051561016 or 087 2134073.

A big thank you to all our volunteers, who are continuing to do Trojan work in supporting all our residents and the vulnerable in the community.

Indeed a special Thank you to Margaret Nacey, who is now working like a Trojan alongside Jenny and Anna in the kitchen, enabling Mag and Kathleen to have a well deserved rest. If you wish to avail of our five star delicious meals, please give us a ring.

It’s great to see the young community members from the GAA continuing to help deliver our Meals on Wheels to the most vulnerable.

We thank our local potato supplier, Bernie Whelan for kindly continuing to donate potatoes, Wallace’s dept store for their kindness in donating the beautiful quality material and the elastic to enable us to make masks. Marian our resident and Ellie are now working hard making the masks.

Thank You to all the valuable volunteers in our community.

A special Thank you to the Red Door for kindly donating muffins and scones this week to Grantstown.

The residents had a social distancing coffee morning and the delicious treats went down well. We are glad to see Michael and Shirley re-open with a take away service in Carrig.

Our residents are continuing our keep fit/dance sessions and they are participating enthusiastically. Along with sharing a cuppa and treat afterwards.

The zoom meetings are going well and running every Wed and Thursday mornings. They are open to all in our community to join. If you are interested, please contact our office and we will help organise. We have covered, quizes, baking, bingo, virtual tours, colouring, and a wonderful music session with John. An absolutely fantastic musician and we thank him for putting on such wonderful afternoons of music.

We wish to thank Ballymitty Hall for lending us a laptop and a few tablets so, if you wish to join us, please give us a ring.

Our excellent volunteers are super troupers, continuing to collect groceries, pensions and prescriptions.

We are definitely feeling that ‘we are in this together’ and thank you to all.

This is a Challenging time for everyone and we are here to help. Please pick up the phone and give us a call at 051 561016. We offer confidential over the phone counselling service by a professional counsellor, for anyone out there that would like to avail of it.

We are missing you all and look forward to welcoming you back, when safe to do so. Looks like it will be Phase five before we can re-open our doors to you... but as they say ‘this time will pass.’ In the meantime, most important, Please stay safe, thinking of you all.

Big virtual hugs from all at Grantstown.
