Wexford Bus services increase as Phase 2 begins

- By SIMON BOURKE

AS we enter Phase 2 of the roadmap and more people return to work so the need for public transport increases.

To cope with this demand Wexford Bus has updated its schedules, with additional services running on Route 740 (Wexford to Dublin City & Airport) on weekdays.

Effective as of June 6 this amended schedule now that means that all southbound services on Route 740 are running as normal.

However, due to limited capactity, Wexford Bus is advising customers to book in advance so they can be guaranteed a seat.

‘Wexford Bus has continued to operate an amended core schedule throughout the past number of weeks to ensure all those that are working in frontline services and that rely on public transport can travel,’ a statement read.

‘We look forward to increasing the number of services as restrictions are loosened and demand returns.’

It is now recommended that those using Wexford Bus wear face coverings to restrict the risk of spreading Covid-19. Hand sanitiser will be provided for those boarding the buses and all drivers are now sitting behind protective screens.

Bus Éireann services have also increased, returning to a standard Monday to Friday frequency from Monday, June 8. Expressway will operate a normal schedule with some minor service reductions.

However, the two metre social distancing requirement means that single deck buses are limited to a maximum of 14 passengers, with double deck buses limited to a maximum of 19. Customers are requested, where possible, to travel at offpeak times.

Those planning essential journeys should be aware that due to reduced traffic congestion, pick up and drop off times at intermediate stops along many routes have been revised and these schedules can be checked on buseireann.ie.

Stephen Kent, Chief Executive Officer of Bus Éireann said, ‘In line with the new guidance on gradual easing of restrictions, we ask for continued support in observing necessary social distance and hygiene measures.

These measures will continue to limit our bus capacity in this phase, especially during peak hours, and we therefore ask for public understanding and co-operation on this issue and to only travel on our service when the journey is essential.’
