Sadness at Aedeen’s recent passing in Arizona

-

THERE was sadness recently as news filtered across the Atlantic of the passing of Wexford native Aedeen Maafu (née Lacy) formerly of Coolballow, who passed away suddenly in her adopted hometown of Mesa, Arizona, due to a pulmonary embolism at the age of just 49.

Born in Dublin on January 6, 1971, to Peadar and Ann Lacy (née O’Leary), Aedeen grew up in Wexford. She attended Kennedy Park Primary School and the Loreto Convent Secondary and often spoke of her happy childhood growing up in Wexford. A talented singer, she was a star performer in Alan Cutt’s choir and was always known to be joyful, loyal and full of life.

In 1986, Aedeen moved with her family to Mesa, Arizona, where she lived for the rest of her days. An intelligent woman, she earned multiple degrees from the University of Phoenix and her achievements there helped her to excel in her career at Honeywell Aerospace where she was a global customer account manager.

Aedeen’s real pride and joy in life were her sons Paula and Veikune. She was a wonderful mother and dedicated her life to her boys and could always be seen on the sidelines at their rugby games. Much loved by family and friends, Aedeen was famous for her delicious trifles and regularly shared her gift of cooking with an appreciative audience!

Following her untimely passing a service was held for Aedeen on April 25 in Phoenix where she was laid to rest at St Francis’ Catholic Cemetery.

She is survived by her loving sons Paula and Veikune (Niva), mother Ann Lacy, sister Avon (Tim) Massad, brother Jonathan (Alicia) Lacy, grandson, Pulu Maafu and many nieces and nephews. May she rest in peace.
