Organisers revving up for September Wexford rally

-

WEXFORD MOTOR Club members are revving up in preparation for the annual Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally, which will go ahead in its traditional timeslot of September 5 and 6.

The acceleration of the lifting of restrictions has given a considerable boost to a variety of sporting disciplines, and rallying enthusiasts have now been promised something they can really look forward to.

The good news was conveyed in a press release issued by Garry Bradley, Chairman of Wexford Motor Club, on Wednesday afternoon.

‘The club is happy to announce its intention of running the Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally,’ he stated, with the popular event due to take place on September 5 and 6.

The decision was taken in light of positive progress with Covid-19 and the final phase of the roadmap being brought forward to July 20.

However, Bradley stressed that the running of the event will be dependent upon more positive progress in the fight against the pandemic, and confirmation that further restrictions will be lifted as per the most recent government updates.

‘The health and wellbeing of competitors, marshals, officials, spectators and the general public will take absolute priority,’ the statement said.

A range of additional resources, to manage how the rally will operate strictly within the protocols set down by both government and Motorsport Ireland, will be in place for the weekend.

The staging of the rally will be a significant boost for the local economy, with competitors and support teams set to arrive from all over Ireland.

‘Each year the rally is worth €700,000 to the local community which includes €480,000 to the hospitality industry alone,’ Bradley said.

Wexford Motor Club members were also keen to recognise the contribution of Wexford Volkswagen, Wexford County Council and the residents of the county, as without their assistance and co-operation the event would not be possible.

‘As always, our thoughts are with those in our community who have been affected by this pandemic, and particularly those who have lost loved ones during the crisis,’ the statement concluded.
