A note on the re-opening of the church in Crossabeg. Volunteers are invited to lend their different skills and talents in preparation for a return to the church. If you want to volunteer your time, please call or text 087 2119151.

WALKING TRACK

Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre committee have given the good news that the walking track at Garrywilliam is once again open for all users. Please note that all of the pitches remain closed and should not be used. Please adhere to the new directional and signage for passing others which are erected for your information. Please adhere also to the HSE advice on social distancing while outdoors. Park away from others and keep at least two metres away for other users at all times. The committee welcome all the community back to enjoy this great facility in our parish. Enjoy it and stay safe.

ATHLETICS

St Killian’s AC committee have decided that due to the number of restrictions, age constraints of athletes and coaches, lack of competitions and it being the normal end of season, that club training would not return at present. Both Enniscorthy Hub and the Walking track at Garywilliam are open and athletes are encouraged to train individually in the meantime. Hopefully by September things will be closer to normal.

JASON DARIGAN

Family, relatives, neighbours, friends and the people of Crossabeg were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death on Thursday, June 4, of Jason, beloved son of local artist Paddy Darigan and Maria, and brother of Paul, David and the late Stephen. He is also survived by his Grandparents Greg and Lily Ryan, Crossabeg. This is the second tragedy to hit the family in little over a year with the death of Stephen. No words can adequately express or convey to the family how we too are feeling their inexplicable grief and sense of loss.

Jason was a talented and gifted musician and in his time worked as a Sound Engineer and Audio Visual Technician and had set up his own company towards the end of last year. We recall that on the athletics front, he formed part of an under-12 (four x 100m) Relay team that competed for Bree Athletic Club which caused quite a stir when they travelled to Galway on July 18, 1998, to compete in the all-Ireland championships. They finished second in their Heat but pulled out all the stops in the final to push Leevale into second place, winning in a time of 55.7 seconds, and they came home the all-Ireland champions with the gold medals. That team also had James Reck and Conor Quinn (Crossabeg) and Paul Crean and Dermot Murphy (Bree) on the panel. Jason was laid to rest in Crossabeg cemetery on Monday of last week. May he rest in peace.

CONDOLENCES

We extend our condolences to the family of the late Alice (Ashey) Murphy, Ballyboggan, whose funeral took place to Crossabeg cemetery on Thursday of last week, following prayers at Kearneys funeral home. A resident at Abigail nursing home, she was in her 92nd year. May she rest in peace.

NEW ARRIVAL

We send our congratulations to new parents Caroline and Conor Quinn (formerly Ballyharron, Crossabeg) on the birth last week of a son, Arthur.
