Boat and tennis club provides outlet for sporting enthusiasts
WHILE those who prefer contact sports and the rough and tumble of hurling, rugby and soccer must patiently await their return to action, the members of the Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club (WHBTC) have been back doing what they love best since the start of the month.
‘The club was lucky to be one of the few sporting clubs back in action post Covid-19, albeit with a slightly restricted programme,’ said Emer McCrea of WHBTC. ‘The “return to play” protocols developed by Tennis Ireland and Irish Sailing are fully implemented, and club is looking forward to further developments in the near future.’
In addition to its five tennis courts, the club also has a vibrant boating and sailing community and they have welcomed the return to the waters after the stress and strain of lockdown.
‘Being out again on the water, enjoying the fresh air, the beautiful scenery and the camaraderie of the members has been a relief to young and old alike,’ says Emer.
WHBTC offers a variety of water based activities, events and courses, both sailing and powerboating, to members of all ages and abilities. It has a fleet of dinghies and safety boats. Along with a slipway, there is also a pontoon and moorings available.
The club, which is an Irish Sailing accredited training centre, has launched a new campaign for adult and junior members.
