CREDIT UNION NIGHT RUN MOVES ONLINE

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

HAVING become a highlight on the annual calendar, the Credit Union 5k Night Run will take place in 2021, albeit in a virtual capacity.

Last year’s night run saw over 600 participants take part and head off for 5km run, starting and finishing on Wexford’s quayside. Rather than cancel the event and leave local causes without vital funding, the organisers have opted to host a virtual Night Run which participants can undertake in their own time between February 4 and 7.

From a mental health perspective, it’s probably never been more important to do a bit of exercise and feel a part of something. The 5km challenge offers a great opportunity for people to get back out running or walking and with a 5km being around 6,500 steps, you can even complete them in your back garden. You can also opt to do it all in one go, or in stages over the 4 day period.

The event aims to raise funds for the Irish Kidney Association and local community organisation High Meadows Community Hub CLG. Both are registered charities that are active within the local community. The High Meadows Community Hub CLG are close to completing the construction of a brand new community facility in Clonard which will be used by several local groups including the 13th Wexford Scout Group.

Online registration is now available by searching for Wexford Credit Union Night Run at popupraces.ie. After you’ve completed the 5k in February, you can upload your time to the PopUp Races mobile app. The cost of entry ranges from €15 to €25 with a t-shirt posted out.
