FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY
THERE’S fun for all the family this Saturday, June 18, as the 156th Gorey Agricultural Show takes place at Clonattin, Gorey.
The Gorey Show isn’t just for the farming community, it’s for everyone! It’s got horse shows, dog shows, a food tent, live music, competitions, arts and craft and much more.
The hardworking committee of volunteers have put together another busy programme to keep everyone entertained for the day, and they have a few surprises lined up.
The qualifier for the All Ireland Cook Off will see six competitors go head-to-head, two at a time, in three cook offs during the day, using food sourced from the food tent. Chef Adrian from TV3 will be overseeing the action.
Local food producers will be displaying their wares in the tent as well, so if you fancy trying one of the recipes yourself, the ingredients will be close at hand.
Elsewhere on the field, there are amusements, face painters, and a stage with dancing, singing, and sketches overseen by Seamus Long.
Over 50 trade stands will be on the field, selling everything from handbags to cordless drills. Those interested in entering a trade stand can contact Morgan O’Connor on 087 9194876.
There’s also plenty of nourishment with an array of food stands, and a bar, so you won’t need to leave the site at all.
The indoor tent will feature competitions in a wide range of baking and home produce categories, as well as arts, crafts, photography, and children’s competitions. Make sure to call in to be impressed by local talent.
The judge for this year’s dog show is Pet Vet Pete Wedderburn. The dog show starts at 2 p.m. and you can enter on the day.
Elsewhere, the Mucky Hound dog agility display is always a highlight. The hound show is also a sight to behold.
Pets Corner has a new category this year, for most unusual pet. You can enter on the day. Rare breeds will also be on the field, with Kia Ora Mini Farm and Shrule Pet Farm in attendance.
Don’t forget to watch out for the vintage parade, the blacksmith’s forge, try the mini-digger challenge, and pay a visit to the Gorey Library stand where a children’s reading circle will be on offer. Tours of the adjoining historic Clonattin graveyard will be offered by John Nangle of the North Wexford Historical Society.
This year’s Gorey Show is delighted to have Wright Insurance Brokers on board as main sponsor, and they are also anchoring the trade stand marquee where they will run all sorts of competitions and games, so make sure to drop by. The Gorey Show committee is very grateful to all its sponsors for their invaluable support.
