AGRICULTURAL COMPETITIONS ARE AT THE HEART OF EVERY GOREY SHOW

-

THE agricultural competitions are at the heart of every Gorey Show, and standards are excellent every year, as the local area is home to some of the country’s top breeders.

The showjumping competitions are always a big attraction, with a wide range of classes from beginners upwards on offer. They can be entered on the day.

The cattle section has received a huge boost this year as Slaney Foods have partnered with the Hereford Breeders Society to offer €2,500 in prizemoney for the Hereford section. A huge number of Herefords are expected for this competition.

Other breeds of cattle, of course, are in competition, and full details of all the categories are included in the show schedule.

The sheep section also always attracts a large entry, and a wide variety of breeds are in competition.

The horse showing classes include mares, foals, young horses, a veterans class for older horses, working hunters, carriage driving, junior and senior side saddle, as well as a qualifier for the RDS Breeders Championship which should attract a lot of interest. There’s also a new Gain Foods sponsored brood mare class with a prize pot of €600.

Activity begins on the field from 10.30 a.m. with most of the showing classes beginning at around midday. The showjumping will start earlier.

Watch out too for the Pony Games which always offer exciting competition.

Entry to the Gorey Show is €8 per adult, and children of school-going age go free. Parking is free, and there are ample spaces on site.

The committee is most grateful to the landowners for hosting the show, and to all who turn up on the day to lend a hand. More volunteers are always welcome.
