CARNEW CAMOGIE
WE’RE mid-way in our season, and all our teams have been busy. Our U8 and U10 squads are still playing in their blitzes, with the next one due in the GAA Centre of Excellence, Ballinakill, on Wednesday, June 15.
The U12s competed in the U12 Go Games blitzes before entering the all-county Mini-League. So far, they have played Knockananna, Bray, Annacurra, Kilcoole, and Glenealy. The U13 Championship starts in August and this will prove valuable experience for those U12s playing full camogie with the U13 and U14 squads.
The U14s have played with great heart, with games against Kiltegan, Donard-Glen, and Knockananna under their belt. Their next League match is against Donard-Glen next Monday night and the Championship is scheduled to start on July 27.
The U16 League has finished, with Bray Emmets and Knockananna taking the top two spots. Their summer sizzler (small sided) competition will run for four weeks, starting on July 6.
The Intermediate team competed in a mixed Junior/Intermediate League competition and the semi-finalist are still to be decided. Meanwhile, the small-sided Summer Sizzlers competition started last week (June 7) in Donard-Glen and continues until June 21..
Finally, massive congratulations go to three of our Intermediates who were on the winning Wicklow panel in the Leinster Junior Championship final against Louth in Aughrim on June 5. Wicklow were the stronger team on the day and Shauna Keogh, Aoife Darcy, and Maire Doran now boast a Leinster Junior title, in addition to last year’s county haul of Junion League and Championship medals.
