Competitive fare for under-14s in Meath Blitz
IT’S been a busy week for camogie in the county following our glorious win in the Leinster Junior Championship.
The next generation, our U-14 Development Squad, played in the Kildare U-14 Development Blitz on Bank Holiday Monday, June 6.
Unfortunately, they only got one match in before thunder and lightening called a halt to proceedings.
They had more luck in the Meath Blitz in Trim last Sunday, playing very competitive games against Kildare, Cork and Antrim. They now have a two-week break and resume training on Thursday, June 30, in Ballinakill from 6.45pm to 8.15pm.
Congratulations to Katie Tyrell (Donard-Glen) who represented Wicklow in the All Ireland Skills Finals in Abbotstown on Saturday. And well done to Chloe Byrne (Kilcoole) and Emma Byrne (Avondale) who represented Wicklow at the Inaugural Leinster Skills Stars Final held in the Kilkenny GAA Training Centre on Sunday.
At a club level, the Adult Summer Sizzlers proved a great success last year. These are small sided games (no more than nine players), with clubs matching numbers. Last week, Donard-Glen hosted and this week (Tues, June 14), Éire Óg Greystones played host to Kilcoole, Donard-Glen, and Ballinacor. Down south, Carnew Emmets hosted Arklow, Knockananna, Kiltegan and Annacurra.
At the other end of the scale, tonight (Wednesday) the U-8s and U-10s participate in an All County Go Games Blitz in the GAA Centre of Excellence, Ballinakill, so there will be great excitement at that! The U-12 League continues apace with matches scheduled to run each Friday night until July 29.
The U-14 League had games on Monday night after a break for the June Bank Holiday, with Aughrim/Ballinacor lining out against Bray Emmets, Avondale v Eire Og Greystones, and Kiltegan v Knockananna. The U-16s are on an exam break and the small-sided Summer Sizzler campaign will kick off on Wednesday, 6 July and run each week until July 27.
