Three Castles make splash

Good day for rowing club

-

THREE Castles Rowing Club enjoyed good results at the two day regatta held on a 1100 metre stretch of the river Barrow in Carlow town centre.

Aaron Keogh and Luke Flynn had great wins in the U15 single and double sculls by wining races against Shandon, Castleconnel and Carlow.

In the singles final Aaron won by a few inches from Luke.

They then doubled up to win the double sculls easily.

In the U18 sculling events Three Castles were unlucky when Oisin Clune and Rory Quinn crashed into the river bank and had to stop when holding a 1 length lead over Glasgow schools who went on to win the event.

Again disappointment in the U18 4x- of Oisin, Rory , Tadgh McKnight and David Gilheany as they had difficulties with the steering when racing St Michaels of Limerick.

An objection after the race held 3 Castles took St Michaels lane and the umpire awarded the win to the Limerick club.

In the U-15 quad the first season crew of Jonathan Grace, Tiarnan Mc Knight, Caolan Higgins, Dara O’Brien and Cox Emmet Gillespie had a good race against a more experienced crew from Shandon in Cork who won.

In their maiden race the U-14 coxed quad of Rob Gilheany, Daniel Devanney, Robert Collins, Eoin Mc Loughlin and cox Dylan Woods enjoyed their race but Castleconnell who had more racing done won.

In the U18 singles semi-final Andrew Irwin put up a good race against a sculler from Glasgow who won by 3 L.

A great weekend racing from all the rowers from Three Castles.
