Stunning effort by Ben Somers seals victory for Arklow

ARKLOW TOWN 1 WICKLOW ROVERS 0

FIRST up on Tuesday evening last in the double header of games in Shamrock Park were the Under-12 teams from Wicklow Rovers and Arklow Town.

And what a game this was. Both teams gave every ounce of energy to the cause and they playing some great football in this thrilling encounter.

It was Rovers who took the game to league champions Arklow and were probably a little unlucky not to go in at the break at least a goal up.

Sean O’Meara and Tom Hodgkinson both went close with efforts with Hodgkinson a persistent torment to the Arklow rearguard.

There was very little between these two teams with both sides working hard to create a clear cut chances. It was going to take something special to win this game and that’s what happened when Arklow’s Ben Somers scored a wonder goal with just a few minutes left on the clock.

Credit to Rovers, they never gave up but luck wasn’t with them on the night.

The Wicklow/Bray People, Wicklow ‘Rovers Under-12As and everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC, and all at Arklow Town FC would like to wish Adam Lacey a speedy recovery from an injury he sustained in this final. Get well soon, Adam.
