One appeal heard over suspensions set down by the C.C.C
THE fallout from the unfinished SFL Division 1A clash between Donard-the Glen and Rathnew continues this week with elements of the investigation still outstanding.
The game, played in Donard, failed to finish and was marred by a melee in which one player received very serious injuries.
According to the CCC’s Mick Murphy there were two appeals launched into suspensions recommended by the disciplinary body after their investigation was completed.
Donard-The Glen appealed one suspension for one of their players who was facing a lengthy ban from playing and that meeting with the Hearings Committee took place last Thursday evening.
A decision on this appeal has been made but Hearings Committee member Declan Finn declined to provide details due to concerns that the player would not have received confirmation of the decision by post yet.
However, sources within Wicklow GAA said on Tuesday that they believed the player had been granted a reduced suspension and would now be looking at a two-match ban instead of a lenghty suspension after the meeting last Thursday evening.
Mick Murphy also said that a second appeal, this one from the Rathnew GAA Club on behalf of one of their players, who is also facing a lengthy suspension, had been forwarded to the Hearings Committee.
However, Declan Finn said that he was unaware of any such appeal from the Rathnew club.
It is understood that the Rathnew player may be facing a hefty suspension originally recommended by the CCC.
The Donard-The Glen and Rathnew GAA clubs accepted the other suspensions imposed on several of their players which included two-match and one-match bans, according to the CCC’s Mick Murphy.
